Job Summary:

The Director leads RMEF communication efforts to ensure consistent messaging that promotes RMEF’s brand and maintains audience engagement. Works closely with the managing director to develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies in all RMEF’s digital and print mediums. Collaborate with executive leaders to align communication strategies with RMEF overall objectives and goals.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee the creation, editing and publication of high-quality content for Bugle, Wapiti Wire and other print and digital channels including newsletters, social media, blogs, and all digital publications. Serve as Editor and Chief for the publications team.
  • Lead the conception of content for each issue of Bugle, considering balance and determining most effective ways to explore large, evolving stories. Demonstrate an understand the RMEF’s mission and goals and RMEF’s audience and tailor each issue to help promote RMEF’s brand. Consult with executive staff to write and place features identified as current issues within the scope of the RMEF’s mission.
  • Work closely with brand and communication team and revenue team to ensure high quality, timely production of relevant content to maximize marketing, branding and sales opportunities within communication pieces across all channels.
  • Safeguard and enhance RMEF’s brand identity across all communication channels. Ensure all communication efforts align with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Work closely with the managing director and digital media and content manager to develop and execute digital marketing campaigns, leveraging social media, email marketing, SEO and other digital tools to drive engagement and traffic.
  • Monitor and analyze digital communication metrics to optimize campaign effectiveness and reach. Provide quarterly reporting to leadership.
  • Work with Communications writing pool to research and write articles for RMEF publications as assigned. Research, produce and write content for distribution on the Elk Network and RMEF social media platforms.
  • Research, produce, create and record (as needed) scripts for video productions used for communications and advocacy outreach projects.
  • Work closely with managing director on the development and maintenance of RMEF’s internal and external communication programs.
  • Develop and manage the communication department’s budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to maximize impact.

Supervision Responsibilities

Supervise the Publications, Digital media, independent contractors, and interns as necessary.

Education And Experience

Bachelor's degree in Communication, Journalism, English or related fields, with a minimum of eight years of applicable experience. Supervisory experienced required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of hunting heritage and the benefits of hunting. Strong belief in conservation and the ability to support RMEF’s mission and organizational goals.
  • Ability to create and manage print and digital communication strategies.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing tools and platforms including social media, content management systems, search engine optimization and analytic tools.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge and familiarity of graphic design, video production and multimedia storytelling.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely. Ability to present ideas and information effectively to individuals and groups.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, relational databases and project management tools.
  • Knowledge of various types of media outlets, including print, radio, and television. Familiarity with Associated Press style guidelines, journalistic ethics and etiquette, and newspaper and station hierarchies.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints, working at a fast pace and remaining accurate. Ability to be flexible with changing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work with a variety of people and personalities in a professional, productive manner.
  • Represents RMEF in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage and resolve conflict.
  • Must be able to lead, mentor, manage and motivate staff. Must foster a collaborative and creative work environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.

Perform other work as required.

Physical Demands

The employee must sit or stand for long periods of time; use a computer terminal; reach forward and to the side; bend from both standing and sitting position; and lift items weighing various pounds, including some heavy lifting. Some weekend work and evening work is required. Some travel required.
