Reporting to the Director, Systems Operation & Mechanical, USA, the Safety Specialist is an integral team member of the Rocky Mountaineer Operations team. The Safety Specialist is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing company's employee safety at work. In doing so, the Safety Specialist will ensure that Rocky Mountaineer is complying with and adheres to all government (OSHA, FRA, FDA, etc.) regulation guidelines to reduce work-related injuries.

This position is deemed Safety Alert and due to the safety aspects of this role, pre-employment drug & alcohol testing will be required. This position requires you to periodically access an active railway area where impaired performance could result in a significant incident affecting the health and safety of team members, guests, the public, property, or the environment.
Key Areas of Accountability
- Plan and implement Occupational Health & Safety policies and programs
- Advise and lead team members on various safety-related topics
- Prepare educational seminars on a regular basis
- Review existing policies and procedures
- Ensure company adherence and compliance with rules and regulations
- Work with other departments to incorporate safety training into the new hire onboarding process
- Conduct risk assessments and safety audits
- Enforce preventative measures
- Prepare and present reports on accidents and violations and determine causes
- Responsible for completing FRA required reporting
- Provide support and advice in the control and reduction of safety hazards and risks, and in the reporting and investigations of incidents
- Assist with other Health, Safety, & Security needs as required
- Strong understanding of SharePoint and electronic storage as well as various document management processes
- Act as the company's DER (Designated Employee Representative) ensuring compliance with the company's FRA Part 219 Drug & Alcohol Testing Program. This includes direct oversight, decision making, and communication of the pre-employment, random, and reasonable suspicion testing program.

Salary : $65,000 - $75,000
