Core Functions :

Order, dispense, repair, and adjust eyeglasses and contact lenses.

Assist and educate patients on the selection of frames, contact lenses, and lens enhancements based on the patient's specific needs.

Manage inventory of contact lenses, eyeglass frames, accessories, tools, and office supplies.

Obtain and record accurate patient history, including chief complaint, past ocular history, personal medical, family, and social history, systemic, medications, and allergies.

Measure visual acuity at a distance and near, utilizing appropriate tests for age and education and recording accurately, including the use of pinhole testing when indicated.

Perform entrance testing, including lensometry, tonometry, autorefractor, confrontation visual field, pupil testing, and EOM testing.

Perform basic slit lamp examination.

Perform ancillary testing, including corneal topography, visual field testing, OCT, fundus photography, and color vision testing.

Assist the doctors and student doctors with minor procedures, vision therapy, or any other tests or procedures assigned by the doctors or supervisor(s)

Provide office support by answering incoming calls, scheduling appointments, checking in patients for appointments, and verifying insurance coverage.

Background / Expertise :

Optician, ophthalmic technician, and / or eyecare receptionist experience is highly preferred.

Bilingual (English / Spanish) is strongly preferred.

Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.

Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, employees, physicians, and the public.

Social perceptiveness and service-oriented

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong organizational and planning skills
