Rodale Institute is offering an educational and hands-on opportunity to assist in all aspects of the organic farm research program at our Pacific Northwest Organic Center at Cascadian Farm campus in Rockport, WA. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Watering and maintenance of orchards and berry fields
- Establishment of research orchards and planting of transplants
- Ongoing plant-care including pruning, dead-heading, watering, mulching, and weeding
- Preparation and application of organic fertilizers
- Field work (planting, harvesting, mowing, weed-eating, etc.)
- Weed and pest management
- Maintenance and cleaning of farm infrastructure and work spaces
- Assist with U-Pick activities as needed
- Maintain Organic and GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) records
- Maintain, organize, and clean farm equipment and storage areas
- Assist other departments as needed
- Other duties and tasks as assigned
Candidate Qualifications:
- Previous farming experience is preferred
- Knowledge and experience using tractors with implements, riding lawnmowers, string trimmer, leaf blower, backpack sprayer, and garden tools preferred
- Interest in agriculture, landscaping, and farming, with a commitment to an organic planet
- Organized and attentive to detail
- Able to work independently, complete projects once assigned, and be a team player
- Able to lift 50 pounds
- Able to work outside in all weather conditions
- Must be prompt, responsible and focused
- Must be able to move freely around the farm to operate light machinery
- Current driver’s license required
Schedule:
- This is a seasonal position, up to 28 weeks. Candidates must be available to minimally work mid-March through mid-August
- Full-time and part-time hours available for this position
- On-site housing may be available
Compensation:
- $16.66 per hour
