Essential Functions :
Engineering Aides will typically focus on one primary role at a time, depending on project needs.)
Plan Preparation & CAD Drafting : Create, update, and revise engineering drawings, base plans, and technical documents for infrastructure projects.
Field Data Collection : Use GPS, robotic total stations, and manual tools to gather accurate field measurements for water, sewer, stormwater, and roadway projects.
Land Surveying & Utility Surveys : Assist with land surveying, mapping, and utility depth verification, including measuring sewer manholes and stormwater inlets.
Utility Markouts & Locates : Identify and mark underground water, sewer, and stormwater utilities using as-built drawings and conventional tools.
PA One Call Coordination : Process Design Notification requests , review utility agency responses, and organize as-built drawings for infrastructure planning.
Lead Pipe Verification & Water Sampling : Inspect water service line materials, collect water samples, and document findings for compliance efforts.
Project Coordination & Logistics : Manage daily schedules, track assignments, and communicate with field teams, contractors, and city agencies.
Compliance & Quality Control : Revise drawings and ensure project documentation meets city and regulatory requirements.
Mathematical Calculations : Compute slopes, curb elevations, and other design elements with precision and accuracy.
Professional Growth : Stay updated on industry trends through training, certifications, and professional development opportunities.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements :
High school diploma or GED certificate required.
Valid driver’s license required (daily field travel).
Must pass a background check prior to employment.
Apprenticeship or Workforce Development Program Experience : Prior participation in an engineering or surveying apprenticeship or workforce development training program is highly valued, as it demonstrates a commitment to the field and provides a solid foundation of technical skills and knowledge.
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple assignments and locations daily.
Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions .
