Applications Engineer: Power Workholding
ROEMHELD North America is a leading Power Workholding device and systems solutions provider serving precision machining, engineered machining fixtures, automated systems, and machine tool industry. We are looking for a motivated applications engineer who will be responsible for evaluating customer machining fixture and automation requirements to recommend, configure, quote, and sell power workholding solutions from the vast ROEMHELD product portfolio that include machine vises, hydraulic clamps, work supports, and Zero Point mounting systems. This position reports to the product engineering manager and works directly with regional sales managers, distributor sales teams, and customers.
The Application Engineer is a meticulous, hands-on team player. He/she takes responsibility for providing excellent technical customer service. The position communicates with customer engineers or technical personnel and sales teams to gather input and suggest solutions to make designs and processes more robust, safe, or efficient. The position interprets customer design requirements and uses process engineering parameters and experience to recommend and sell recommended devices and system solutions. They must build trust and act as support for both customers and sale team, ensuring they lead to potential future sales.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist customers in designing, troubleshooting, and specifying products to optimize machining operations, fixturing, and workholding systems.
- Actively maintain technical and product expertise to sustain effectiveness as a product specialist, understand product application in a variety of situations, and employ comprehensive knowledge of competitive products and industry standards.
- Read and understand technical material and specifications.
- Complete engineering change orders, engineering projects, and internal improvement projects.
- Communicate, collaborate, and support our distribution network, customers, sales staff, and production facilities in Germany and Austria.
- Create Bill of Materials and drawings for products made in-house.
- Generate quotations with required support documentation and enter purchase orders.
- Update and maintain technical product documents and project log.
- Assisting Product Engineering Manager in gathering market intelligence and other product related projects.
- Occasional travel may be required to assist sales team on Customer visits, provide technical support at tradeshows, conduct training, and training at factory in Germany and/or Austria.
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field is preferred though an associate degree with relevant work experience would be considered.
- 0 - 3 years’ experience preferred in a related precision machining setting or with configuring, specifying, or evaluating tool design and/or machining workholding selection.
- Outgoing, personable, reliable, and self-motivated.
- Proficient with Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and TEAMS.
- Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electronics as well as basic mechanical systems.
