Responsibilities
- Lead the Design Team (DT) to optimize and streamline design operations for maximum efficiency.
- Build and maintain strong business relationships with project partners, fostering collaboration and growth.
- Participate in project design meetings to oversee architectural and interior design across all active developments.
- Evaluate architectural, interior, and landscape plans throughout the Schematic Design (SD), Design Development (DD), and Construction Document (CD) phases to ensure efficiency and quality standards are met.
- Travel to new markets to ensure designs align with economic feasibility and competitive market trends.
- Foster professional development of DT employees through Individual Development Plans (IDPs), one-on-one meetings, and ongoing education opportunities.
- Manage team assignments to ensure an equitable distribution of workload across team members.
- Oversee and drive the growth of the design department by implementing best practices and exploring opportunities for vertical integration.
- Develop and manage the annual departmental budget, project-specific FF&E budgets, and GMP FF&E allowances.
- Review and refine interior design concepts for both in-house and third-party projects.
- Administer and maintain project design standards and specifications across all project types.
- Collaborate with Purchasing team to ensure project specifications are aligned with National Accounts and best pricing available.
- Evaluate GMP contract clarifications and value engineering (VE) selections, ensuring decisions align with efficiency and design standards. Manage and maintain the add-alternate list for each project.
- Collaborate with other department leaders to incorporate feedback derived from marketing and leasing experiences.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or interior design is preferred.
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- 10 years interior design and/or construction experience in Multi-family and/or Hospitality is required.
- 5 years of successfully managing a team of 4 or more employees is required.
- Computer skills: Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, Excel, One Note, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Knowledge in AutoCAD and Revit is preferred.
- Must be organized, detail oriented and have good time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and on a team.
- Have current knowledge of materials, finishes, furnishings, and equipment, including industry standards for selection, procurement, and installation management of such items.
- Have strong client, project management, and time management skills.
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to interact with a wide range of people.
