Job Description :

The Creative Writing Program seeks applicants to teach one of our two introductory courses, CW110 Narrative in Prose and CW120 Form in Poetry . These courses are taken by creative writing majors and minors, as well as by non-majors in fulfillment of the University's general-education Creative Arts requirement.

CW110 Narrative in Prose : involves "guiding students on a critical study of the elements of narrative structure and design in fiction and nonfiction, such as character development, point of view, tone, setting, plotting, and time management."

CW120 Form in Poetry : a critical and creative study of the notion offormin poetry, including essential received forms and the presence of form as evidenced in more nuanced aspects of patterns and shifts. Readings will include some of the oldest poems we know, some of the most recently published, and much in between.

Requirements :

An applicant should hold a graduate degree in creative writing, or possibly in a related field, in combination with a record of publication of creative work.

As we at RWU aim to promote an inclusive environment, we seek candidates who can contribute to these aims and demonstrate an array of related competencies in the areas of equity and inclusion. We strongly encourage applications from those belonging to groups that have been historically underrepresented in higher education, including women, ethnic minorities, differently-abled, lesbian / gay / bisexual / transgender; and artwork, curriculum, and research about underrepresented groups.

At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be accepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
