Job Duties & Responsibilities
The Mental Health Technician functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and de-escalation support, and role modeling to patients ranging in age depending on which unit worked.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living; interacts with patients, attends to patient needs and helps in crisis intervention, as needed.
- Ensure safe practices for medication observation and administration for patients within our residential programs. Assure safe rights for medication observation and administration for the residents including the six rights of medication safety.
- Support cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and exposure response prevention (ERP) therapies throughout shift.
- Responds to emergency and / or crises situations and supports visitor safety.
- Actively observes / monitors and records patient behavior and activities including but not limited to meals and monitoring food intake. Complete documentation related to the residents and daily treatment progress notes as required within the medical record.
- Monitors safety of patients, visitors, and environment, including infection control standards. Complete daily environmental rounds for safety, sanitation, codes, door lock and alarms.
- Safely check residents into unit at admission or return from an off-ground pass or activity.
- Reports any changes in patient condition or safety to the treatment team.
