Rogers Group Inc. is currently seeking a Survey Chief (Foreman) in the Huntsville, AL / North Alabama operations area, Alabama SMA reporting to the Area Construction Manager & Superintendent II. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to lead safety, quality, and revenue generation throughout our existing operations and additional operations through growth.
Job Details
35-hour Weather Guarantee after 30 days of employment, must be available to work 6 days during the seven-day work period. Hours guaranteed, up to 35 hours (example: worked 20hrs, Actual Pay 35hrs; worked 38hrs, Actual Pay 38hrs). Weather pay is accrued on weekly accumulation, not hours per day. Holiday pay counts toward the 35-hour guarantee.

- Lead Survey Crew: Supervise, train, and mentor survey technicians and other crew members, ensuring they follow safety procedures, adhere to timelines, and maintain high-quality standards.
- Conduct Surveys: Perform a variety of field surveys (topographical, boundary, construction staking, etc.) to provide accurate data for the planning and execution of construction activities.
- Interpret and Review Plans: Review construction plans, blueprints, and specifications to understand the project’s surveying needs and ensure accuracy in staking points, alignment, and measurements.
- Operate Survey Equipment: Utilize and maintain a variety of surveying instruments and technology such as GPS, total stations, levels, and data collectors. Ensure all equipment is calibrated and in good working condition.
- Data Collection & Analysis: Collect accurate field measurements and data and assist in analyzing the results to ensure the work aligns with the project design.
- Coordinate with Contractors and Engineers: Collaborate with construction managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure all surveying aspects of the project are completed according to specifications.
- Ensure Compliance: Ensure all surveying activities comply with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards. Enforce safety guidelines to minimize risks on-site.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of all survey activities, including field notes, data, and reports. Provide regular updates to the project manager regarding progress, challenges, and any issues encountered.
- Quality Control: Ensure that surveys are conducted precisely and that results meet the project’s specifications and legal requirements.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in land/construction surveying, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in the use of surveying instruments (GPS, total stations, levels, data collectors, etc.) and survey software (e.g., AutoCAD, Trimble Business Center, etc.).
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of surveying methods, construction drawings, and civil engineering principles.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members, contractors, and clients.
- Safety: Thorough understanding of construction site safety practices and OSHA regulations.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; a degree or certification in land surveying, civil engineering, or a related field is a plus.
- Certifications: Surveying certifications (e.g., LSIT, PLS) are preferred but not required.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, stand for long periods, and lift heavy equipment.
