Academics
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dean provides administrative leadership for the College of Professional Studies, its academic departments, programs, faculty and curricular affairs. Key responsibilities include overseeing academic planning and budgeting for the college, exploring and developing new academic programs based on projected student demand and workforce needs, leadership in developing and maintaining program accreditation, recruiting faculty, and establishing successful partnerships

Key responsibilities include overseeing academic planning and budgeting for the college, exploring and developing new academic programs based on projected student demand and workforce needs, leadership in developing and maintaining program accreditation, recruiting faculty, and establishing successful partnerships
PRIMARY DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Personal Management
- Supervise the evaluation of the faculty and department head according to established university policies and procedures.
- Participates in the recruitment, appointment, and retention of faculty, department heads, and staff in accordance with established personnel policies and affirmative action guidelines.
- Approves all faculty assignments including overload assignments.
- Reviews and recommends to the VPAA all professional actions from the departments including reappointment, tenure, promotions and salary.
- Recommends appointment of adjunct faculty to the VPAA.
Financial Management
- Supervises the preparation, submission, and allocation of the College budget.
- Manages the College inventory and facilities and instructional equipment in the best interest of the College as a whole.
- Approves all requisitions, travel requests, work orders, for repairs, and renovation to physical facilities within the College.
- Assures the equitable distribution of the Colleges library budget.
Program Management
- Administers university policy with regard to grade changes, course waivers or substitutions, enrollment overloads and similar transactions.
- Oversees preparation of class schedules for the College.
- Approves class sizes in consultation with the VPAA.
- Coordinates activities involving the College and external agencies such as program review, assessment, and accreditation.
Academic Leadership
- Facilitates long-range planning for the College.
- Supervises curriculum revision and development.
- Encourages faculty professional development.
- Facilitates review and changes in policies, procedures, programs, as well as College and Department mission statements.
Teaching
- The Dean will teach one course each semester excluding summer.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Academic accountability issues related to various accreditation agencies;
- State and Federal policies;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Service orientation;
- Ability to meet crucial deadlines and make effective decisions;
- Ability to attend to multiple priorities and work in a climate of accountability and fiscal benchmarks;
- Proven administrative leadership skills and management skills related to higher education policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. or other terminal degree;
- Department Head or similar administrative experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated commitment to faculty and academic program development;
- A record of working collaboratively with all operating units of the University;
- Effective leadership in an environment of shared governance.
REPORTS TO: Vice President for Academic Affairs
HOURS: 8:00a.m. – 5:00p.m. Monday – Friday; evenings and weekends as necessary.
