Business Technology Instructor (Adjunct Faculty Pool)

This is an adjunct faculty pool for teaching part-time in the Business Technology department. The pool will remain open until June 2025 unless positions are no longer needed. Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be contacted and interviewed as positions become available. 

Instructor is responsible for organizing and carrying out structured learning processes for students in business and economics courses. A detailed list of business courses is available at https://www.roguecc.edu/catalog/cd/businessAdministration.asp.

Supervision Received
The dean, in consultation with the department chair is responsible for carrying out the evaluation of instructors under procedures developed by the vice president. The dean confers with the department chair in decisions regarding instructor workload, professional growth, retention, and department staffing levels.
1. Instructs students in a classroom, lab, learning center, or other setting as appropriate. 
2. Prepares, distributes, and utilizes instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices as appropriate. 
3. Develops, communicates, and utilizes a student assessment process and instruments which are related to the stated objectives of the course. 
4. Participates as a team member in departmental meetings and planning activities. 
5. Participates in curriculum planning and development as needed. 
6. Engages in regular professional growth activity based on the objectives established in an approved professional growth plan. 
7. Represents the Business Technology Department and the college to the community, business, public agencies, and other organizations in a professional manner. 
8. Responsible for departmental equipment and provides for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate to the department. 
9. Performs other duties as assigned.  

Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Management, Marketing, Accounting, or related area is required to teach technical (career education) business classes. A Master's Degree in Business, Management, Marketing, Accounting, or related area is required to teach transfer-level business classes. 
 
Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.

Experience: A minimum of one year of documented, successful teaching experience is required. Community college teaching of business classes is preferred. Related occupational experience and/or professional licensure are a plus.  

Knowledge of: Contemporary knowledge of any of the following business subjects: accounting, payroll, business communications, technical report writing, marketing, management, supervision, business law, human relations, business ethics, business math, retailing, customer service, business statistics, computer accounting applications (QuickBooks), and Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook); Computer applications for communication and learning, including, but not limited to, word processing, the Internet, multi-media presentations, spreadsheets and database management; curriculum development; the community colleges' mission, role in higher education, and student population; and sensitivity to a diverse student body and its needs.  

Ability to: Communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students and staff; demonstrate experience or potential for innovation and creativity in the classroom; demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth; incorporate current technology into instruction; demonstrate excitement and enthusiasm in teaching business classes; adapt to a variety of teaching situations, including lectures, group activities, individual instruction, and distance learning; work and interact effectively with staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Pass a criminal background check.  

Licenses: If required to drive on behalf of the college, must possess a valid Oregon Driver License and provide proof of an acceptable driving record.
 
Physical DemandsThe physical demands listed below represent those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with qualified disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

Manual dexterity and coordination are required for less than half of the daily work period (about 40%) which is spent sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials less than 5 pounds daily, 5-25 pounds occasionally, and 25-60 pounds rarely. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working indoors in an office environment. The employee is not exposed to hazardous conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and lighting is adequate.  
This is an adjunct faculty pool for teaching part-time in the Business Technology department.
