General Statement of Responsibilities
 
The dental hygiene faculty member provides didactic, laboratory, and clinical instruction for dental hygiene students in on-campus clinical facilities, fieldwork sites, and distance learning environments.
 
Supervision Received
 
The dean is responsible for carrying out the evaluation of instructors under procedures developed by the vice president. The dean confers with the department director in decisions regarding instructor workload, professional growth, retention, and department staffing levels. 
  1. Teach a variety of didactic, laboratory & clinical dental hygiene courses.
  2. Serve as an academic advisor to assigned students.
  3. Provide laboratory and clinical instruction, evaluation and supervision for dental hygiene students.
  4. Monitor patient care to ensure that patients receive safe and appropriate care.
  5. Assist with orientation, calibration and supervision of part-time clinical instructors.
  6. Assess the completeness and accuracy of student, patient and clinic records.
  7. Maintain confidentiality of information related to students, patients, faculty and staff.
  8. Monitor student, patient and instructor compliance with clinical policies and procedures.
  9. Participate in long-range planning, program development and outcomes assessment.
  10. Pursue professional development opportunities to maintain current knowledge & skills.
  11. Integrate scholarly activity into teaching & professional growth.
  12. Participate in professional association activities.
  13. Represent the program within Rogue Community College & in the community
  14. Serve as a role model for the dental hygiene profession.
  15. Other duties as assigned. 
Education
 
  1. Graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program
  2. Bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene; master’s degree preferred
  3. Current CPR/First Aid card, HIPPA and OSHA standards training required.
 
Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted:   accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609.  Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.
 
Licenses and Certificates:  
 
Licensed or eligible for dental hygiene licensure in Oregon Anesthesia and Nitrous Permit required.
 
For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License and proof of an acceptable driving record are required. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver’s license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)). Current ASE Master Auto Technician certification in all eight automotive repair categories is required.  Advanced level L1 ASE certification is desirable. Recent training certifications from multiple car manufactures are desirable.
 
Experience:  
 
  1. Clinical experience with local anesthesia, nitrous oxide-oxygen administration, and restorative procedures preferred.
  2. Current knowledge of dental infection control procedures, radiation safety, emergency management, HIPAA and FERPA.
  3. Current certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
  4. Formal preparation in educational theory and teaching methods.
  5. Knowledge of current concepts in dental hygiene and dental hygiene education.
  6. Preferred, current teaching experience in clinical dental hygiene education.
  7. Current clinical experience as a licensed dental hygienist.
  8. Experience working with patients who have limited access to dental care.
  9. Experience with computer-based dental practice management systems. 
  10. Experience with Microsoft Office computer software including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
  11. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Manual dexterity and coordination are required for less than half of the daily work period (about 40%) which is spent sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials less than 5 pounds daily, 5-25 pounds occasionally, and 25-60 pounds rarely. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.

Primary work setting is a dental hygiene education program located on the health professions center.  Some work may be scheduled at off-campus fieldwork sites.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working indoors in an office environment. The employee is not exposed to hazardous conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and lighting is adequate.  


 This is an adjunct faculty pool for the Dental Hygiene program. 

The application documents required include a cover letterresume and unofficial transcripts indicating the level of degree earned. Candidates will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree(s) upon hire. Compensation is based on the Rogue Community College 24-25 Adjunct Faculty Salary Schedule.

This pool will remain open until June 2025 unless positions are no longer needed.
