This is an adjunct faculty pool for teaching part-time in the Community Education High School Drivers Training department. The pool will remain open until June 2025 unless positions are no longer needed. Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be contacted and interviewed as positions become available.


Instructor is responsible for teaching 15-17 year old teens to be safe and proficient drivers in a classroom setting as well as behind-the-wheel using the ODOT-approved curriculum. Instructor will maintain college standards in all aspects of professionalism, record keeping and instruction within the team atmosphere of the Continuing Education Department of Rogue Community College.  


Supervision Received

The Director, in consultation with the Training Services Coordinator (TSC) is responsible for carrying out the evaluation of instructors under procedures developed by the Vice President. The Director confers with the TSC in decisions regarding instructor assignment and retention.  

 

1. Instructs students in assigned subject matter in a classroom, automobile, learning center, or other setting as appropriate. 
2. Prepares, distributes, and utilizes instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices as appropriate. 
3. Develops, communicates, and utilizes a student assessment process and instruments which are related to the stated objectives of the course. 
4. Maintain attendance records. 
5. Participates in curriculum planning and development as needed. 
6. Represents the Continuing Education Department and the college to the community, business, public agencies, and other organizations in a professional manner. 
7. Responsible for departmental equipment and provides for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate to the department. 
8. Performs other duties as assigned.   
 
Education: High School diploma required. College degree desired.  Current ODOT Instructor Certification card required. Information on obtaining certification can be found at http://triwou.org/pages/show/becoming-a-driver-ed-instructor     
 
Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.

Experience: Must have at least 5 years of consecutive work experience (in any field). Prior teaching experience preferred. 

Knowledge of: Basic automotive maintenance requirements. 

Microsoft Office applications; tools for communication and learning, including, but not limited to email and the Internet, and may include multi-media presentations, on-line and distance (interactive video conferencing) instruction (as appropriate); curriculum development; the contemporary community college mission, its role in higher education, and its diverse student population; the role of accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act; and different pedagogical methods, including lecture, group activity, discussion, online and individual instruction to accommodate a variety of learning styles.  

Ability to: Communicate effectively and respectfully with colleagues and students from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds including non-traditional adult learners as well as teens; work collaboratively as a member of the Continuing Education Department; demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching; participate in curriculum development; organize effective lessons; advise students; work with college and agency partners; demonstrate experience or potential for innovation and creativity in both the classroom and related educational duties, including the use of new curriculum and technologies; demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth. 

Pass a criminal background check and drug screen test.  

Licenses: If required to drive on behalf of the college, must possess a valid Oregon Driver License and provide proof of an acceptable driving record. 
Physical DemandsThe physical demands listed below represent those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with qualified disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

For a typical community education course, manual dexterity and coordination are required for about half of the daily work period which is spent instructing students in a classroom lab or other setting, and sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials less than 5 pounds daily, 5-25 pounds occasionally, and 25-60 pounds rarely. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities. Some community education courses may have additional physical demands related to the nature of the course.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is typically working indoors in a motor vehicle or in an office. In an indoor office environment the employee is not exposed to hazardous conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and lighting is adequate. The instructor may be exposed to different working conditions due to the nature of the course, content, and location.

This is an adjunct faculty pool for teaching part-time in the Continuing Education department. Pay rates are negotiated with Continuing Education on a case-by-case basis. This pool will remain open until June 2025 unless positions are no longer needed. If at any time you decide that you are no longer interested in being considered, you may log in to the system and withdraw your application from the pool. Typically at the end of the year (or at any point we no longer have a hiring need for this department), we will close this pool and you will receive an email notification.
