Are you passionate about psychology? Can you create and maintain a dynamic and interactive learning environment? Consider joining the Social Science and Human Services Department at Rogue Community College, where we value engaging teaching methods that inspire and involve students. We are currently seeking a part-time Psychology Instructor to cultivate a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and academic backgrounds. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about collaborating to enhance student success, creating interactive learning experiences, and fostering a supportive learning environment that inspires students' critical thinking.
 
Specifically, we are looking for instructors to teach: 
  • Psychology of Human Relations in person and/or online
  • and/or General Psychology I and II in person and/or online.
 
This is an adjunct faculty pool for teaching in the Social Science department. The pool will remain open until June 2025 unless positions are no longer needed. Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be contacted and interviewed as positions become available. If at any time you decide that you are no longer interested in being considered, you may log in to the system and withdraw your application from the pool. Typically at the end of the academic year (or at any point we no longer have a hiring need for this department), we will close this pool and you will receive an email notification.
 
 Instructor is responsible for the planning and implementation of various psychology courses. Instructor is required to create a course syllabus, instruct students in the subject matter in accordance with that syllabus, maintain attendance records, assess student progress and evaluate course work for a letter grade. Instructor will maintain college standards in all aspects of professionalism, record keeping and instruction within the team atmosphere of the social science department of Rogue Community College.  
 
Supervision Received
The dean, in consultation with the department chair is responsible for carrying out the evaluation of instructors under procedures developed by the vice president. The dean confers with the department chair in decisions regarding instructor workload, professional growth, retention, and department staffing levels.
  1. Instructs students in a classroom, lab, learning center, or other setting as appropriate using active learning approaches that both engage and facilitate student learning. 
  2. Prepares, distributes, and utilizes instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices as appropriate. 
  3. Develops, communicates, and utilizes a student assessment process and instruments which are related to the stated objectives of the course. 
  4. Adapt learning procedures to the online/distance learning environment, including web-based delivery, ensuring comparable quality of instruction, student-teacher interaction, and assessment with classroom-based courses. 
  5. May participate as a team member in departmental meetings and planning activities. 
  6. Communicate effectively with a wide variety of students and college staff. 
  7. Responsible for departmental equipment and provides for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate to the department. 
  8. Participates in curriculum planning, development, outcomes, and assessment activities as needed. 
  9. Organize the learning experience for the maximum benefit of traditional and non-traditional learners. 
  10. Maintain regular and responsive communication with students, the department, and the college. 
  11. Strive to enhance teaching and learning techniques. 
  12. Pursue professional development to stay current in the field of psychology and utilize best practices for teaching and learning. 
  13. Understand and commit to the community college's vision and mission.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.    
 
Education:  A Master’s Degree in psychology or related field is required.  

Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.

Ability to:   Communicate effectively, inclusively, interactively, engagingly, and respectfully with diverse students, staff, and community members; demonstrate experience or potential for innovation and creativity in both the classroom and in online; demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth. Pass a criminal background check.  

Knowledge of: current trends in research on subjects taught. Computer applications for communication and learning, including, but not limited to, word processing, the Internet, multi-media presentations, spreadsheets and database management; curriculum development; the community colleges' mission, role in higher education, student population; and best practices for culturally responsive teaching.

Experience: Successful teaching experience in a higher education setting.

Licenses: For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License and proof of an acceptable driving record are required. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver’s license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).

Manual dexterity and coordination are required for less than half of the daily work period (about 40%) which is spent sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials less than 5 pounds daily, 5-25 pounds occasionally, and 25-60 pounds rarely. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.
 
Working Conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 
 
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working indoors in an office environment. The employee is not exposed to hazardous conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and lighting is adequate.

This is an adjunct faculty pool for teaching part-time in the Social Science department. Candidates will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree(s) upon hire. Compensation is based on the Rogue Community College Adjunct Faculty Salary Schedule 24-25.
