What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Care and Adoption Technician position at Rogue Valley Humane Society?
The Animal Care and Adoption Technician ensures all facility animals are provided with and receive the best possible care and attention while at the Rogue Valley Humane Society. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Animal care, housing, feeding and disinfecting
- Provide environmental enrichment, monitor and report behavior and health issues and record keeping
- Performs all the necessary functions in maintaining the shelter in a clean and sanitary manner and assist the general public as required
- Carry out all aspects of intake, transfer and adoptions of pets
- Position also includes blood draws, basic diagnostic testing, calculating and dispensing of medications, as well as supporting the shelter veterinary and medical team
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Strong listening and communication skills, problem solving and critical thinking in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to prioritize, multi task with good judgement and have great organizational skills
- Proficient in client communication, friendly, helpful and engaging
- Basic knowledge of pertinent animal control laws, regulations and ordinances
- Competent computer skills including reliable and consistent ability to enter data into Animal Shelter Manager, ClinicHQ, and Volgistics programs, as well as effective working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word/Excel)
- Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, support veterinarian and medical team
- Ability to perform basic veterinary technician duties
- Must have a valid Oregon Driver's license (or valid out-of-state driver's license)
- Priority will be given to applicants who have at least 1 year of animal handling experience in a professional setting (pet boarding, pet sitting, veterinary office, farm/sanctuary, etc.)

Additional Job Information
- This position will provide between 26 and 32 hours per week on average.
- This position does involve working weekends.
- This position will deal with both our canine and feline departments, and you will be cross trained on how to handle each population.
