What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIS Technician position at Rogue Valley Sewer Services?
Purpose of Position: The GIS Technician will work with a wide variety of sewer and stormwater system data, develop and maintain sewer and stormwater system maps, GIS applications, forms, inspection tables, and migrate system data between GIS applications, databases, spreadsheets, and AutoCAD software.
Essential Job Functions
· Maintain, analyze, and process data to develop accurate sewer and stormwater system maps using Microsoft Excel and ESRI GIS suites.
· Prepare customized maps for RVSS staff members and the public.
· Address internal staff issues and questions about GIS applications and inspection forms.
· Comply with quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and security of GIS data.
Auxiliary Job Functions
· Assist the GIS Specialist and other Engineering staff in the migration of existing data from a variety of sources into existing or new GIS geodatabases
· Export datasets and compile reports from GIS databases.
· Coordinate with partner agencies to share and ensure the accuracy of GIS source data.
· Conduct research using GIS tools and other available data.
· Conduct field investigations to validate the data accuracy of existing District assets using survey-grade GPS equipment.
· Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
· Maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, other organizations and the general public.
Job Qualification Requirements
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
· Advanced geographic information systems software knowledge, specifically ESRI GIS software suites.
· Bachelor’s degree in GIS or geography with an emphasis on GIS, or equivalent combination of college-level education and experience to successfully perform the Essential Job Functions.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
· Working knowledge of basic office software applications (word processing, spreadsheets, database, PowerPoint)
· Working knowledge of AutoCAD software.

Physical Demands of Position
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 10 pounds regularly. Manual dexterity and coordination are required for over 50% of the work period while operating standard office equipment.
Working Conditions:
Usual office working conditions are where the noise level is typical of most office environments, with telephones, interruptions, and background noises.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervision is not a function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel on site policies and practices.
Supervision Received
Works within the Engineering Department under the general supervision of the District Engineer. Tasks may be assigned by the GIS Specialist.
