The Position
Chief Medical Officer
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) serves as the senior medical leader and strategic visionary for Alameda Health System (AHS). As both a physician executive and clinical strategist, the CMO champions AHS’s commitment to delivering the highest standards of patient care and clinical excellence.
Collaborating closely with clinical chiefs, department chairs, the President of the Medical Staff, and other medical leaders, the CMO ensures seamless alignment between clinical priorities and operational goals. This role also partners with senior hospital and ambulatory service executives to drive innovation and enhance care delivery across AHS’s network.
The CMO acts as a trusted advocate for the medical staff, guiding their roles and responsibilities while fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability. Additionally, the CMO represents AHS with key internal and external stakeholders, serving as a dynamic voice for the organization’s mission of advancing health equity and excellence in care.
Experience / Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) required.
- Master’s in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related degree strongly preferred.
- 5 years of clinical background as practicing clinician or clinical leader with substantial experience in an administrative / leadership capacity in an accredited hospital or medical center.
- Experience as a CMO (or equivalent) in a large, complex hospital or health system preferred.
- Current and unrestricted medical licensure in any US state required.
- Current or past Board Certification required.
- Appropriate medical professional organization (SCP; AMA).
Compensation
For the selected candidate, a complete and competitive compensation package will be offered which includes salary (annual salary range $481,080 - $801,800), major insurances, PTO, retirement, and relocation reimbursement.
