The Lower School world languages program seeks to inspire open-minded, curious, motivated language learners. In grades K-2, students are exposed to French and Spanish. In grades 3-4, students select one language to pursue until Middle School. Instruction is focused on vocabulary development, creative expression, and cultural exploration using storytelling and a variety of hands-on methods, with emphasis on the use of the target language.
The World Languages Department is seeking a full-time faculty member to teach French and Spanish. The teacher will collaborate with homeroom teachers in the Lower School and members of the World Languages Department. As with other Lower School faculty positions, the job includes some supervisory duties, as well as attendance at weekly faculty meetings. There may also be the possibility of teaching an additional section in another division.
Key Responsibilities
A background check (including criminal records and employment history review) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can begin work with RPCS. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status or the start of employment.
Travel Requirements
In accordance with Maryland's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, we are committed to providing transparent wage information for all posted job opportunities. The salary range for this position is $54,000 - $107,500 annually. Compensation is determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and internal equity.

Key Responsibilities
- Teach semester classes of French and Spanish, Grades K-2
- Teach year-long classes of French and Spanish, Grades 3-4
- Collaborate to further grow and expand K-4 curriculum
- Communicate regularly with parents about the program and student progress
- Perform supervisory duties
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in French or Spanish or a related linguistic field
- At least two years of demonstrated excellence teaching a world language
- Superior proficiency in French and Spanish
- Demonstrated ability to integrate technology in content delivery
- Experience with and commitment to student-centered and culturally competent teaching pedagogies
- Familiarity with giving and receiving feedback for professional growth
- Flexibility and openness to collaboration and experimentation
- Graduate degree and/or immersive cultural experience with one or both target languages
- Knowledge of the Symtalk curriculum
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position that involves sitting at a desk, working on a computer, standing, reaching, and bending for prolonged periods of time
- Physical agility to stand, kneel, walk, push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, crouch, reach overhead, and respond to emergencies
- Occasional-to-frequent physical mobility and manual dexterity sufficient to move about the classroom, ascend/descend stairs, maneuver in tight spaces in classrooms, bend at the waist, use office equipment, and keyboarding
- Ability to exert/lift up to 10 lbs as frequently as needed to move objects or class materials
- Must be able to see and hear with acuity on a continuous basis
- The Lower School World Languages Teacher is a full-time, exempt position
- The Lower School World Languages Teacher is expected to be available to work during all hours as may be assigned by the School, as well as during other hours for events and activities
- Occasional extended hours may include evenings or weekends, as business needs require
- The Lower School World Languages Teacher is expected to perform their job duties on campus, unless otherwise permitted by the Head of School
