GENERAL SUMMARY :

Roland Park Country School, a K-12 independent girls' school, seeks a full-time Middle School Math and Science Teacher to begin August 2025. The individual in this position reports directly to the Middle School Head and will work in collaboration and partnership with both the Mathematics and Science departments. The Middle School Math and Science Teacher will work with early adolescent girls and should have a strong desire to help educate courageous scholars. This individual collaborates with passionate educators to craft the ideal math and science learning environments for Middle School students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Plans innovative, developmentally appropriate classroom activities and assignments designed to engage a diverse student population.
  • Exhibits a love for STEM fields and an eagerness to share a passion with an enthusiastic student body.
  • Meets regularly with the Middle School Head, the Middle School Team, and the Middle School Academic Department and attends Grade-level Team meetings as needed.
  • Builds curriculum, works collaboratively with colleagues, and supports the developmental needs of adolescent girls.
  • Integrates interactive digital tools into the curriculum as appropriate.
  • Serves as an academic advisor to Middle School students and extracurricular activities.
  • Attends professional conferences and workshops as needed.
  • Understands the social-emotional needs of adolescent
  • Respects and values the School's Mission and Core Values
  • Creates a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
  • Has other reasonable duties as assigned by the Middle School Head or Head of School.

Science

  • Teaches two or three classes that follow the middle school program of integrating chemistry, physics, engineering, biology, and earth science.
  • Uses a hands-on, constructivist approach that inspires students to think, read, write, and argue like real scientists and engineers.
  • Builds on the conceptual and skill foundations developed in the Lower School Science program
  • Maintains a strong understanding of core scientific concepts, scientific reasoning, and experimental methodologies.
  • Stays current with methodologies and objectives described by Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Math

  • Teaches two classes and is available for math extra help during end of day office hours.
  • Uses the constructivist approach to deliver the Illustrative Math Curriculum for grade 7.
  • Builds on the conceptual foundations developed in the Math in Focus program in the Lower School.
  • Maintains a strong understanding of core mathematical concepts, algebraic reasoning, and geometry.

  • Demonstrated ability to create safe spaces for students to take intellectual risks and develop positive self-esteem.

  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a highly motivated team.
  • Strong work ethic and high level of integrity.
  • Experience creating differentiated learning opportunities aligned with formative assessments and continuous feedback to optimize student outcomes preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology in content delivery / skill development.
  • Values a socially inclusive environment and responds with sensitivity and awareness to the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Familiarity with giving and receiving feedback for professional growth.
  • REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, science, or a related field required. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  • Experience with inquiry-based learning pedagogies that put students at the center of their learning.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Remain in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Repeat motion of wrists, hands, and fingers to operate standard office equipment, such as a computer and phone.
  • Requires visual acuity to read a variety of written materials.
  • Physical agility : stand, kneel, walk, run, push / pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, reach overhead, crouch, and respond to emergencies.
  • Must be able to move around and access all parts of the campus upon request, which includes gym, turf, fields, dining hall, etc.
  • Occasionally ascend and descend stairs in emergency situations.
  • WORK CONDITIONS :

  • The Middle School Math and Science Teacher is a full-time, exempt 10 month position.
  • The individual in this position is expected to work during all hours as may be assigned by the School and during other hours for events and activities.
  • The Middle School Math and Science Teacher is expected to perform their job duties on campus, unless otherwise permitted by the Head of School.
  • COMPENSATION DISCLOSURE : In accordance with Maryland's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, we are committed to providing transparent wage information for all posted job opportunities. The salary range for this position is $54,000 - $85,500 annually. Compensation is determined based on factors such as Experience, Qualifications, and Internal equity.

    BENEFITS AND ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION : Additionally, this position includes a comprehensive benefits package and other forms of compensation, including :
