Job Summary:
The Residential Helper assists in the collection of residential waste, recycling, and yard debris for a trash collection company. This role involves physically demanding outdoor work and requires a focus on safety, efficiency, and teamwork. The Residential Helper works alongside a driver to ensure timely and proper collection of waste materials from homes, adhering to company guidelines and municipal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with waste collection: Ride along on the trash truck to collect household waste, recycle, and yard debris from designated residential areas.
- Loading and unloading: Manually lift and empty residential trash cans, recycling bins, and yard waste containers into the truck.
- Safety adherence: Follow all safety guidelines and procedures to ensure the safe operation of waste collection vehicles and equipment.
- Clean work areas: Ensure that waste collection sites are clean and free of debris after pickup.
- Customer service: Respond politely and professionally to residents’ questions or concerns related to waste collection services.
- Team support: Assist the driver by providing directions, spotting while backing up the truck, and ensuring smooth workflow.
- Equipment care: Perform basic maintenance and cleanliness tasks on the waste collection truck and related equipment as directed by the driver or supervisor.
- Timely work completion: Ensure that all assigned routes are completed in a timely and efficient manner, reporting any issues to supervisors.
Other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Physical fitness: Must be able to lift heavy items (up to 75 lbs) and stand, walk, or run for extended periods.
- Safety-focused: Ability to adhere to all safety protocols and procedures.
- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with the driver and other team members.
- Punctuality and reliability: Must consistently show up on time and complete all assigned tasks.
- Good communication skills: Ability to interact with residents and coworkers respectfully.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions: Comfortable working outdoors in all Working Conditions:
- Outdoor work environment, often in varying weather conditions.
- Physically demanding role that requires heavy lifting, bending, and climbing on and off trucks.
- Work schedule may include weekends, holidays, or extended hours during peak times.
