Sets up, plans, and performs a variety of machine operations utilizing numerical control machining centers to cut, shape, or form metal work pieces to specifications by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Inspects first-run piece after set-up and spot checks succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications, using micrometers, precision dial gauges, and calipers. Makes subsequent periodic checks to guarantee adherence to print tolerance and make necessary adjustments.
- Adjusts machine feed and speed and changes cutters to machine parts according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.
- Attaches fixture to machine bed and positions and secures work piece in fixture according to set-up instructions.
- Changes cutting tools and location of work piece during machining process as specified in set-up instructions.
- Replaces worn or damaged cutting tools, using hand tools.
- Selects and installs specified cutting tools for job currently running.
- Observes numerical displays on control panel and compares with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments.
- Monitors machine operation and display readouts to detect malfunction.
- Reads process sheets, blueprints, and sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications and operating requirements.
- Maintains log on inventory for total run parts and scrap material.
