What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Service Aide position at Rolling Hills Developmental Center?
BASIC FUNCTION
The Social Service Aide will provide supervision, services, and training to the individuals, including training in skill development. Will ensure the rights of the individuals, promote communication between individuals and family members. Will provide active treatment and preserve client confidentiality.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Train individuals and staff on individuals legal and civil rights and create an understanding of these rights with individuals and staff.
2. Conduct and document programs for each individual, as specified by the Individualized Program Plan.
3. Interact appropriately with individuals.
4. Document, mail, and file completed document mail forms.
5. Hand out and read, as needed, all daily correspondence to individuals, respond by assisting individuals with corresponding back with letters and/or telephone calls.
6. Assist in maintaining letter-writing groups, gather supplies for groups weekly, post letter writing schedule monthly, and assure activity is being carried out.
7. Assist with dining room, run programs, and document such.
8. Assist with CFA’s, when requested by supervisor.
9. Meet service goals before the ECD date.
10. Write progress notes for social service programs.
11. Assist and accompany individuals on trips in the Mississippi and/or surrounding area if deemed appropriate and/or necessary.
12. Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information to ensure individual rights are protected.
13. Perform and/or assist other staff in an effective, professional, cooperative manner when working in conjunction with supervisor, peer, professional and supportive staff in all duties required to provide quality care/programs in a pleasant environment for residents.
14. Must have a class “D” Drivers License.
15. Performs other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed by the Supervisor, Program Service Director, and/or Administrator.
16. Clothing Inventory
- Maintains an accurate inventory of resident’s clothing, including documentation of clothing received, deleted and distributed by working with the personnel assigned to designated resident’s clothing.
- Ensure the accurate and efficient flow of stock items (i.e., Personal Care Items) and an accurate record of transactions.
- Ensure the residents have an adequate amount of appropriate clothes that fit and are in good repair for various occasions and seasons.
- Ensure each resident has adequate and sufficient levels of personal care supplies for hygiene and grooming.
- Ensure closets and personal care boxes are kept neat, orderly and clean by monitoring, in-servicing and policy/procedure enforcement.
- Ensure residents hair is kept neat and stylish by scheduling timely haircuts and styling.
- Ensures residents are packed appropriately when going on home visits.
- Performs assigned assignments according to established policies and procedures.
- Maintains the security of the clothing/personal care items stock room.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
Attends participates in inservices, workshops, etc.
EXPOSURE RISK
The Social Service Aide is at minimum risk for exposure to blood and body fluids.

Receives supervision from the Social Service Director.

QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATION
Must possess as a minimum a high school diploma or equivalent.
- EXPERIENCE
None required. Will receive On-the-Job training.

2. Sitting, standing, bending, lifting (no more than 25% of your own body weight) and moving intermittently during working hours.
3. Subject to frequent interruptions.

6. Communicates with other departments and personnel if necessary.
7. Willingness to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when deemed necessary.
8. Is subject to falls, burns, infectious diseases, substances, odors, etc., throughout the workday.
