JOB SUMMARY: The Bus Driver is responsible for driving the Park District’s passenger bus for program trips and special events, transporting preschool aged children through adults. Drivers are responsible for inspecting the bus and maintaining the safety and security of the Park District’s vehicles This is an at-will position. Primary duties include:
- Safely transport program/event participants and staff.
- Maintain security of vehicle during all trips.
- Maintain and promote excellent customer service relations through positive and professional communication with participants, co-workers, supervisors and other affiliates.
- Ensure the safety of all bus passengers and maintain a working knowledge of all general and department safety rules. Enforce safety rules and improve public and employee knowledge by addressing, correcting, and preventing unsafe behavior.
- Adhere to an assigned schedule and arrive at pick-up and drop-off points in a timely manner.
- Conduct daily inspections of the vehicle prior to operation and complete maintenance records and incident reports.
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness inside the Park District bus.
- Recognize and report any required bus maintenance to the Recreation Supervisor.
- Assist patrons, as necessary, into and out of bus via the stairway or wheelchair lift.
- Demonstrate strong understanding of Illinois driving laws and obey all traffic laws.
- Use personal protective safety equipment at all appropriate times.
- Adhere to general rules and policies of the Rolling Meadows Park District.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates must be at least 21 year of age and a high school graduate or equivalent. Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake, passenger and school bus endorsement with a minimum of 1 year driving experience. Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR/AED and first-aid certification. Must be able to successfully pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol test (or provide proof of a current DOT physical) per the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse regulations.
SCHEDULE & PAY: This is a part-time, non-exempt position. Schedule depends on designated trip days. Trips typically occur during the weekdays between the hours of 10am-3pm. Days and hours vary depending on the trip. If we do not meet our minimum, then the trip will be canceled due to low enrollment.
