JOB SUMMARY: The Horticultural Maintenance crew member is responsible for the care, beautification, and maintenance of district landscapes, ensuring that all outdoor spaces are well-kept, aesthetically pleasing, and healthy. Key responsibilities include, but not limited to: planting, pruning, mulching, mowing, weeding, and seasonal tasks such as snow removal. The Horticultural Maintenance Crew is under the direct supervision of the Parks Foreman and this is an at-will position.
Essential job functions:
- Responsible for outdoor annual and perennial beds operation and maintenance to include, but not limited to bed designs, cultivation, fertilization, planting, propagation, pruning, pesticide application, transplanting, weeding, and watering.
- Landscape duties (mowing, tree trimming, flower, and plant maintenance, etc.) as directed.
- Perform regularly scheduled and special athletic field maintenance.
- Park clean up and garbage removal as scheduled.
- Park grounds, athletic field, or facility development as scheduled.
- Maintain park buildings as scheduled.
- Snow and ice removal as required.
- Perform park, playground, building, vehicle and hazard inspections, reports, and evaluations as scheduled.
- Use proper care and maintenance of equipment.
- Help plan park operations with Park Foreman as needed.
- Work in all types of weather conditions, year-round.
- Follow all required safety procedures and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) accordingly.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates must be a high school graduate or equivalent and possess a valid driver's license. Must have experience in Horticulture or related field and able to perform required parks crew duties. Must have or obtain Pesticide Certification within 6 months of employment. The position requires ability to work in all types of weather conditions, year-round as well as able to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) based on job specific tasks, such as safety goggles/glasses, earplugs and helmets. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds without assistance/75-100 pounds with mechanical assistance and able to bend/twist/squat/climb/reach frequently. Candidates must possess the ability to work independently as well as with a team.
SCHEDULE & PAY: This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Minimum of forty (40) hours per week, Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm, plus evenings and weekends as required. Target hiring range is $44,000-$46,000 DOQ (dependent on qualifications). The full salary range for this position is $37,326 - $55,989.00.
