Coach - Girls Basketball
Bishop Garriga Middle Preparatory School is seeking a Coach - Girls Basketball for the 2025-2026 school year.
Job Summary:
The primary responsibilities of the Coach are to instruct and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in assigned sport(s); and contribute to the Catholic education program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics.
Ministerial Character:
The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:

- As an integral part of the ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of the Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Continually grow in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, trainings sessions, and reflection activities as directed
- Use of a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned
- Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship
- Work with other members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of students athletes
Program Management:
- Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis; model performance criteria and physical movement required for successful student performance of sport
- Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Work with the athletic director to schedule fundraising events, planned special events, practices and any added competition events
- Ensure all parochial League rules and Middle Level rules are in compliance
- Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation
- Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation process of the coaching program and make changes based on findings
Organization Improvement and Morale:
- Demonstrates a professional attitude as a member of diocesan staff
- Maintains confidentiality in matters of assigned department and the diocese
- Serves as a representative of the diocese displaying courtesy, tact, positivity, and discretion in all interactions with colleagues and community served

Qualifications
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize tasks

- Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion
- Able to do basic computer skills such as e-mail, and word processing
- Able to maintain reports for travel
- Oversee the process of cleaning, repairing and storing all campus athletic equipment and maintain a current inventory of all equipment usable and obsolete; turn in the inventory to the Athletic Director at the end of each season for the sport
Special Knowledge /Skills:
- Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
- Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
- Ability to pass drug and background check
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- CPR Certified
Mental/Physical Demands:
- Ability to carry, pull, push, lift, or move objects 10 pounds or more
- Regular bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, turning, reaching, climbing, and balancing
- Ability to maintain composure under duress
- Environment: Work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather) and inside; frequent exposure to noise; frequent districtwide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; moderate exposure to vehicle fumes and work around moving vehicles
Position Information:
- Reports to the Athletic Director
- Stipend position
- Must successfully complete pre-employment screening including criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review (MVR), and drug screening
- Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required
- Must adhere to all Diocesan policies and procedures
- High school Diploma or equivalent
- Experience in the sport coaching
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with diocesan policies and procedures
- Valid Texas driver’s license
