What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Faith Formation/Catechesis position at ROMAN CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF CORPUS CHRISTI?
St. George Catholic Church in George West, Texas, seeks to hire a Director of Faith Formation to facilitate our religious education program and to serve as a role model and spiritual leader for our children/youth. The Director of Faith Formation will provide coordination and vision for the parish's efforts in our religious education ministry to our young people in grades Pre-K through 12.
This is a part-time position with 16 to 20 hours per week, depending on the needs of the parish. The position is not eligible for benefits.
Ministerial Character:
The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (the Diocese) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
Responsibilities:

- As an integral part of the ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of the Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Continually grow in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, trainings sessions, and reflection activities as directed
- Recruit and maintain Catechists for all levels
- Keep updated files for each Catechist and student including, but not limited to, registration forms, medical release, and hold harmless agreement
- Assist Safe Environment Coordinator with background checks and safe environment training for all catechists and catechist aides including youth over 14 years of age
- Keep up-to-date attendance records weekly and provide copies to the pastor
- Assist the Altar Server Coordinator with scheduling altar servers and emailing notifications (schedule) to parents, pastor and parish office; keep attendance records for altar servers
- Encourage youth to develop their relationship with God
- Assist Youth Minister with planning activities and events for youth including invitations and notifications to parents and parishioners
- Foster the involvement of young people in the life of the parish including serving in parish ministries and participating in parish events
- Coordinate volunteer opportunities and community service projects for the church and others for students in Confirmation classes
- Create a safe and welcoming environment for children and teenager
- Communicate and work with the office manager and pastor regularly
Qualifications
- Energetic with ability to engage children of all levels
- Must have knowledge of the Catholic faith and be able to share this faith with youth pre-k through grade 12 to help them develop their faith
- Must have a valid Texas driver's license
- Must successfully complete a criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review, and drug screening
- Must complete Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources
- Must follow diocesan policies and procedures
- Must be able to communicate clearly and well with children, youth, parents, and staff
