Description
The Cathedral in Corpus Christi, Texas, is seeking to hire a qualified Groundskeeper to perform general maintenance duties on parish grounds. This is a part-time position.
Ministerial Character:
The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (the Diocese) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
Responsibilities:

- Maintain and improve grounds, including lawns, gardens, trees, shrubbery, and other outdoor spaces
- All trash is picked up on grounds keeping all trash receptacle areas clean from all debris
- All stairwell areas are to be kept clean to include scrubbing them down as needed
- Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment such as lawn mowers and leaf blowers.
- Implement seasonal care such as planting in the spring or leaf removal in the fall
- Inspect the grounds regularly for potential hazards or signs of damage
- Perform minor repairs on outdoor structures such as fences, gates, and walkways
- Ensure sidewalks and driveways are clear of debris or trip hazards for safe passage
- Collaborate with other members of the management team/volunteers on larger projects
- Assist in preparation and cleanup for indoor and outdoor events
Part time position-20 hours a week
Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage time effectively
- Good communication skills and a customer-oriented attitude
- Capability to work in various conditions (indoors and outdoors)
- Must be able to work with volunteers and vendors
- Ability to lift 20 pounds or more
- Must be able to climb (ladders), bend, push, pull, stoop, and perform other physical tasks
- Reliable transportation
Additional Requirements
- Valid Texas drivers license
- Must successfully complete pre-employment screening including criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review (MVR), and drug screening
- Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required
- Must adhere to all Diocesan policies and procedures
