Position Title: PRINCIPAL St. Michael School Penn Yan
Location: Penn Yan, NY
Classification: Full-time, Exempt
Wage Range: 65 – 70 k annual
Reports to: Parish Pastor and the Diocesan Superintendent of Catholic Schools
The Principal administers (designs, develops, directs and evaluates the school’s religious and academic programs) and provides leadership in faith development, spiritual growth, and academic excellence.
Qualifications:
1. Current N.Y.S. Teacher Certification (a minimum of 3 years teaching experience).
2. N.Y.S. School Building/Administrator Certification (a minimum of 2 years previous experience preferred not required as a school building administrator).
3. Must be an active member of the Catholic Church with the ability to obtain a pastoral letter of recommendation from your parish pastor.
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Spiritual Leader Responsibilities:
· Develop a strong relationship with the Parish and surrounding community.
· Active role in daily worship.
o Morning prayer, grace in classrooms, etc.
· Active role in monthly worship.
· Complete Catechesis training and promote training with teachers.
· Create a religious vision/theme for the school year.
o In cooperation with faculty, create a theme centered on a verse from the Bible.
· Coordinate C.A.S.E./Safe & Sacred Training.
· Background Check employees/volunteers.
2. Instructional Leader Responsibilities:
· Teacher Observations - Evaluate teachers formally and informally throughout the year.
o Review teacher plan books, electronic or paper.
o Understand the expectations of the NYS Learning Standards for each grade level.
o Understand the Diocese of Rochester’s Religious Curriculum and ensure it is delivered in each classroom.
o Assess and review teachers’ use of formative and summative assessments.
o Ensure students are engaged in hands-on learning activities, including several forms of centers.
o Know and understand the NYS and Diocesan learning standards for all grade levels; can lead teachers in learning their grade-level content
· In cooperation with the Superintendent and Coordinator of Assessment and Professional Growth, review NYS assessment scores.
o Plan relevant professional development activities for your teachers.
· Review Report Cards and mandate that all teachers update grades via FACTS for the parent portal.
· Ordering of textbooks from those districts with students in the school.
· Middle States Accreditation Annual Reports.
· Regular communication with public school districts regarding ESSA funding and Substantial Equivalency measures
· Purchase/maintain support of technology with the Diocese.
· Secure grants to support initiatives.
3. Managerial Leader Responsibilities:
· Building Administration –day-to-day operations of the school.
o Provide a safe and orderly school environment.
o Create/revise emergency plan and practice all aspects of the plan.
o Address student discipline when necessary.
o Understand and discuss NYS requirements and government-funded programs with your mentor (ex. Mandated Services Aid).
o Understand educational law and how it applies to Catholic schools.
o Evaluate the physical plant of the building and authorize repairs/construction when necessary (in conjunction with parish leader).
· Communication
o Establish clear expectations for faculty and staff.
o Delegate responsibilities when necessary and empower trusted employees.
· Human Resources –
o New Staff – interview, hire, provide an orientation to the school, provide a mentor at your discretion, and observe.
o Supervise and evaluate all faculty and staff.
o Handle conflict with employees directly – face-to-face is always more effective than an email.
o Distribute Intent Letters for next school year (January time frame)

Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
