Job Description
Job Title: Bus Driver Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
Department/Location: St. Charles Catholic School / San Carlos, AZ
Primary Function: Under the direction of the Pastor, School Principal, or other assigned manager, is responsible for providing bus driver duties. This includes primarily transportation of students to school and to events but can include other personnel. The Employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, “…Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received.” (Eph. 4:1)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the Church’s and school’s spiritual and pastoral mission
- Shall abide by Catholic principles in the employee’s professional and private life, and shall govern his/her professional and private life in strict accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral strictures
- A working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Catholic Church. Must be in full communion with the Church.
- Comply with safety regulations as required; maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure Pre-and Post-trip vehicle safety inspections are conducted.
- A willingness and ability to work with children of all ages.
- Drive bus/van on assigned route; recommend extension of routes or changes in schedule to provide safe service to children.
- Provide transportation of students and others in a safe manner.
- Inspects bus fluids and mechanical functions and reports maintenance required
- Fuels bus when needed.
- Instruct students and others on bus safety and discipline.
- Manage student discipline; contact school administration regarding disciplinary referrals.
- Refer parent complaints or discipline problems to school administration.
- Maintain a clean and working vehicle.
- Maintain daily log of bus inspection.
- Maintain a daily log of student riders
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity; normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal transportation environment
Required Activities: Walking; sitting; standing; stooping; reaching; talking; handling; hearing; and carrying.
Basic Qualifications:
- A working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Catholic Church. Must be in full communion with the Church.
- Excellent communications skills including written and verbal
- Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter and be well-organized; must be a team player
- Able to travel, and be available for evening and weekend work as necessary; have reliable transportation
- Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Proficiency in the use of computer technology; ability to maintain confidentiality
- First-Aid or Emergency Medical Technician qualified; must be knowledgeable of safety procedures.
- A working knowledge and experience in Emergency Services including a working knowledge of current laws related to emergency services and response.
- Able to successfully pass a criminal history and background check
- Professional bearing and clean and neat personal appearance
Education and Experience:
- High school graduate or equivalent education (GED)
- CDL License
Other/Preferred Skills:
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish)
