Ronald McDonald House Charities Bay Area (RMHC Bay Area) envisions a world where all children have access to health care and their families are fully supported and actively involved in their care. RMHC Bay Area supports more than 4,000 children and their families annually through three Ronald McDonald Houses, two Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles, a Ronald McDonald House School, as well as regional food insecurity programs, alternative housing support, psycho-social and respite programs and specialized programming delivered on site inside area pediatric hospitals.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
RMHCBA is seeking an individual who is charismatic, a self-starter, problem solver, people person, and highly organized to join our Mission Bay team as a Guest Services Associate at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Mission Bay. This role is responsible for supporting accommodations and the Center for Families, making sure all materials are complete and ready, support in the coordination of family holiday gift program, receive, pick up, set up, and distribute lunches and dinners, assist, and attend to in-hospital families, and cleaning/restocking up at end of every shift. This position is also responsible for maintaining a supportive, safe, clean and secure environment, directing the work of volunteers, and assuring that services and programs are provided in a manner consistent with current policy and procedures. GSA should feel comfortable interacting with families from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds within a medical environment.
This role requires working directly with hospital and food partners, volunteers and families which requires the ability to interact in a thoughtful, energized, and forward-thinking manner. Preferred candidate is a multifaceted operator – creative, charming, outgoing, socially sensitive, flexible, organized, patient, team-oriented and imaginative with a knack for both detail and spontaneity.
This is a part-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Associate Director, Family Services. One position available, with the following shift:
Monday – Friday,
2:30pm -7:00pm
This role requires working holidays.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Connect with outgoing/incoming staff at the beginning and end of each shift to relay important information.
- Supports the Center for Families at UCSF Mission Bay by staffing the center and providing services to in-hospital families.
- Stock and distribute resources including snack bags, laundry soap, toiletries, and other items to respective storages.
- Accept, set-up, and distribute lunches and dinners.
- Supports and provides back up in the communication with UCSF housing coordinators to assign guest rooms.
- Communicates with families checking in to ensure check-in process is understood and all details have been relayed.
- Supports in the communication with community and hospital partners to coordinate family holiday events and gift giveaways.
- Communicates with Programs Coordinator/Hospital Staff when family shares their concerns or has questions.
- Supports infection control process by sanitizing touched areas, handling food accordingly, and following hospital protocols and mandates.
- Monitor inventory of household items, and cleaning supplies
- Submits work orders with UCSF for House/Center for Families related items.
QUALIFICATIONS AND PREREQUISITES
EDUCATION
- High School Diploma
- 1 year of customer experience or in a related field
- 2-3 years of relevant professional experience in working with people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, families in crisis, medical environment, and understanding of non-profit community
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Office and customer service experience
- Strong communication skills
- Able to handle difficult situations with confidence and compassion
- Experience working with volunteer groups or personal volunteer experience
- Interest in working with families and children
- Experience working with diverse populations
OTHER
- Good problem-solving and organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Certified in CPR (Adult, Child & Infant), AED and First Aid (or ability to get certified)
- Valid CA driver’s license
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds
