Volunteer Manager
Join our team at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois! We are looking for a driven, enthusiastic, and highly organized leader who is passionate about empowering volunteers and building meaningful connections in the community. This is a full-time exempt position with benefits. Hours are M-F, 10am-6pm with occasional evening or weekends as needed for special activities. This position is based at the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City.
Family Programs:
- Plan and lead engaging, family-friendly events for guests staying at the House.
- Coordinate event logistics, including resources, staff, and communication.
- Develop new and creative partnerships to expand opportunities for families.
- Gather feedback from participants to improve future activities.
- Coordinate special events for holidays.
- Operate activities within the approved budget.
Volunteers:
- Recruit, onboard, schedule and train volunteers to provide organizational support for day-to-day operations and special events.
- Build relationships with local groups and community partners.
- Support volunteers through routine engagement, providing timely feedback to ensure they feel energized and valued in supporting the organization.
- Troubleshoot day-to-day volunteer needs and coordinate with internal staff.
- Serve as an ambassador for the organization and represent RMHC-EIWI at public events.
Management of the Commercial Kitchen, Meal Groups, and Kitchen Coordinator:
- Direct Supervision of Kitchen Coordinator position.
- Oversight of evening meal program, including outreach, sign up and communication.
- Ensure commercial kitchen meets public health and licensure standards in partnership with the Kitchen Coordinator.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree required: Experience in volunteer management, family services, or similar field preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet frequent deadlines and manage multiple projects.
- Enthusiastic public speaker comfortable with making presentations to groups of all sizes and demographics.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Computer proficiency, including familiarity with Excel, MS office products, database software, and social media.
- Ability to work Monday-Friday 10am-6pm, including occasional nights and weekends.
- Basic comfort level in the kitchen with the ability to complete food safety training (SERV Safe) upon hire.
- Valid Driver’s License required, some local travel required.
