House Program Assistant, Ronald McDonald House

The Ronald McDonald House at Cox South has a brand new role! We’re looking for an individual with a big heart to help others and fulfill the Ronald McDonald House mission. The House Program Assistant position requires an individual who can demonstrate an attitude that gives our Ronald McDonald House families top priority and provides an atmosphere of appreciation to our donors and volunteers.

The House Program Assistant works with our team to ensure the House is in the best condition possibile for our families and our volunteers are fully developed and have a rewarding experience. Applicants must successfully complete the organization’s criminal background check and qualify to obtain a Class E Driver's License. Responsibilities include the registration, check-in, orientation, and checkout of guest families. Family Care Managers continually inspect the premises and are responsible for ensuring that cleanliness and maintenance standards are being met by working in partnership with our dedicated team of volunteers.

Open Shift:

3-4 four days weekly, Monday-Friday, 16 hrs per week (Cox House)

Starting Wage:

$18-$20 per hour

Job Description: House Program Assistant, Ronald McDonald House near Cox South

Reports to:

Program Manager of Ronald McDonald House Near Cox South

Overview:

While on duty, the House Program Assistant will be held accountable for successfully operating the Ronald McDonald House near Cox South in a positive and professional manner and within the procedures and policies established by Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ozarks, Inc. The House Program Assistant will demonstrate an attitude that gives Ronald McDonald House families top priority and provides an atmosphere of appreciation to volunteers and donors. The House Program Assistant must successfully complete the organization’s required criminal background check and will be required to hold a Class E driver’s license.

Physical requirements include: sees to read documents and use a computer, types and uses electronic devices, hears well enough to communicate with associated publics, alternates between standing or sitting, drives a vehicle, keyboarding, crouches or stoops, and routinely lifts, carries, and moves materials weighing 50 pounds.

The position divides into the following areas:

I. Overall House Management/Administration

A. Handles/oversees all inter-House communications including the prompt and professional handling of all telephone calls, requests, and visitors. Refers phone calls and visitors pertaining to the Associate Program Manager, Program Manager, Program Director, Development Assistant, Director of Philanthropy, Tooth Truck Program Director, Director of Finance & Administration, and President & CEO’s realm of responsibilities in an appropriate and professional manner.

B. Keeps all House supplies well-stocked. Communicates needs to the Program Manager.

C. Accountable for all financial transactions that occur while on duty, including: room receipts, Petty Cash, RMH merchandise sales, and receipt of all funds and in-kind gifts through the House office. Properly records donations and is familiar with the donor recognition program.

D. Continually inspects the premises and is responsible to ensure that cleanliness and maintenance standards are being met in the House. Checks to see that all House furnishings and supplies are in place. Recommends needed repairs to the Program Manager. Consults with the Program Manager when emergency repair situations occur.

E. While on duty, assumes full accountability for the operations of the House. Properly implements all House rules, regulations, policies, and procedures and is familiar with all information in the Blue Book and Emergency Procedures. Objectively assesses special situations, considering all aspects and circumstances. Completes House Checks upon request.

F. Consistently documents information on the Manager’s Log; using the Manager’s Log as the primary means of communication with other managers.

G. Accountable for the security of the House, its families, and volunteers while on duty.

II. Guest Relations and Direction

A. Spends quality time with guests. Provides a warm, compassionate, and supportive environment.

B. Accountable for check-in, registration, orientation, and check-out of guests according to House rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

C. Keeps abreast of families’ situations through information recorded in the Manager’s log and on their Registration Cards.

D. Functions as a source of community information to ensure that guests feel welcome in the city and the neighborhood. Strives to provide helpful community information, sources, and events to guests.

III. Direction & Training of House Volunteers

A. Serves as an example to volunteers. Promotes the House standard of volunteers being considered “The Heart of the House”. Enriches the volunteers’ experiences in handling responsibilities and interacting with families and is continually conscious of the volunteers’ opinions of and experiences with the House.

B. Supervises and develops volunteers in handling responsibilities. Serves as a source of encouragement and motivation. Continually follows up on completion of responsibilities.

C. Ensures that volunteers are properly utilized. Continually monitors the use of their talents and abilities to complete responsibilities and projects.

D. Maintains effective communication with staff and volunteers. Ensures that the behavior of volunteers is in compliance with the established Ronald McDonald House standards. Promotes positive internal public relations. Communicates concerns with the Program Manager and Associate Program Manager immediately.

E. Is familiar with the established volunteer recognition program and completes tasks related to the program upon request..

F. Assists with the Meals from the Heart program; ensures that the established program guidelines are being met.

IV. Attitude & Professionalism

A. Maintains a positive attitude at all times, creating an atmosphere that presents the organization to guests, patients, volunteers, donors, board members, community members, staff and other publics as a supportive, compassionate place; consistently upholds a standard of professionalism; maintains an inclusive and unbiased approach with all interactions.

B. Maintains a high standard of honesty and integrity in all actions including quality of work and communications with both internal and external parties. Strictly adheres to the AFP Code of Ethics and Donor Bill of Rights.

C. Communicates effectively with the President & CEO, all staff members, guests, patients, donors, volunteers, the boards of directors, and other publics; remembers their actions affect others; consults those who have an interest at stake and informs others who are entitled to know about things done independently; can accept constructive criticism in a positive manner from subordinates, peers and superiors.

D. Recognizes and values the achievements and insights of predecessors in their position, as well as the associated staff, broader community, activities, and events.

E. Handles internal problems and information in a tactful and professional manner; refuses to discuss internal matters with those who are uninvolved, particularly refusing to discuss the actions and personalities of other staff members unless directly responsible for their supervision; uses good self-control; able to deal effectively with emergencies; strictly maintains confidentiality. Fully adheres to the organization’s Open Door/Grievance Policy.

F. Demonstrates the desire to continue to learn with active efforts toward self-development; enthusiastic interest towards work; establishes a course of action to accomplish all job responsibilities and achieve goals; is well organized; consistently meets established deadlines.

G. Makes active attempts to influence events to achieve priorities and goals; is self-starting rather than passively accepting and understands results are the barometer for success.

H. Takes genuine pride in appearance; maintains appearance, grooming and hygiene standards; keeps office area clean and well organized; understands and adheres to all RMHC policies and procedures; has a thorough knowledge of job responsibilities and RMHC standards.

A. Implements House tours and other activities upon request.

B. With the approval of the Program Manager, assists with various tasks and responsibilities upon request.

C. Contributes to the ongoing efforts to increase the organization’s email contact lists.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 16 per week

Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday

Ability to Relocate:

  • Springfield, MO 65807: Relocate before starting work (Required)
