What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher Head Start position at Rooftop of Virginia?
OBJECTIVE:
Be responsible for the classroom and implementing curriculum based on knowledge of families’ and children’s needs and interests. Work with parents to assure that the educational, health and social services needs of individual children and their families are met. Work with component coordinators to assure planning, organization, implementation and follow-through with comprehensive services. Teachers are free to use personal choices in teaching within the bounds of the Head Start Program curriculum, Performance Standards and best practices in early childhood care and education.
II. RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
A. Active nurturing supervision of children in the classroom.
1. Utilize curriculum to fidelity to teach children and keep them actively entertained.

c. Learning Platform
- Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS)
2. Ability to input accurate data.
a. Ages & Stages Social Emotion & Developmental (ASQ’s)
b. Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program (VKRP)
c. Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS)
d. Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP)
- Lesson Plans, Observations, Child Developmental Profiles, etc.
e. Utilize program and agency data management systems
- Attendance, Meals, Contacts, Daily Health Checks, etc.
B. Must be able to work closely together with other classroom staff to provide direct supervision of children.
a. Manage schedules amongst one another to ensure coverage
b. Supporting knowledge of Early Learning Outcomes Frameworks, School Readiness Goals, Program Goals/Policies

f. Yearly – 2x per year – PALS, VKRP, & CLASS
E. Health and Safety
1. Ability to squat, sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, hear, see, speak, and lift and/or carry at least 40lbs.
2. Knowingness of possibility to exposure of blood, bodily fluids, or tissues
3. Knowingness of possibility to exposure of communicable diseases
F. Technology
1. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) proficient.
2. Willingness to train in program and agency data management systems

1. Ability to casually present oneself.

5. Continue to expand knowledge by attending trainings, etc.
6. Performing duties requested by COO, Head Start Director and Agency Chief Executive Officer.
IV. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A. 45 CFR §1302.91(e)(2)(ii) “…a program must ensure all [preschool] center-based teachers have…an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in: child development [or] early childhood education (ECE) [with] equivalent coursework [to a major relating to ECE and experience teaching preschool children], or otherwise meet the requirements of section 648A(a)(3)(B) of the Act.”1 …and/or willingness to obtain baccalaureate degree within two years.
B. Willingness to complete/continue trainings/certifications - Any other trainings/certifications deemed necessary. Must maintain certain certifications.
V. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Comply with all background checks required by the program.
Valid Virginia Driver’s Licenses may be required
