Position Summary
Room to Grow is in an exciting phase of growth, expanding our impact to support more families raising babies in low-income circumstances. The Development Coordinator will play a critical role in advancing our fundraising efforts, helping to ensure we have the resources needed to sustain and scale our work. This is a unique opportunity for a detail-oriented and mission-driven professional to contribute to a dynamic development team focused on building meaningful relationships with donors and stakeholders.
The Development Coordinator will report to the Interim Senior Managing Director, External Engagement and collaborate closely with the Manager, Individual Giving and broader External Engagement team. This role will support a variety of fundraising initiatives, including donor engagement, gift processing, event coordination, and prospect research. They will also play a key role in maintaining accurate donor records, tracking fundraising performance, and assisting with the execution of fundraising campaigns and special events.
A successful candidate will be highly organized, proactive, and excited about contributing to a mission-driven organization. They will bring strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and an eagerness to support a growing fundraising team. This role is ideal for someone looking to build a career in nonprofit fundraising and development.
This is a full-time, hybrid position that offers a dynamic mix of in-office and offsite work. You’ll spend two days a week at our family center in the South Bronx, with occasional in-person donor visits and engagement events throughout the New York areas as needed, while having the flexibility to work from home on other days.
Position Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Support the planning, development, and execution of annual and year-end appeals, including mailings, email follow-ups, and donor stewardship activities.
- Draft donor appeals, thank-you letters, and other donor communications.
- Cultivate and steward regular giving programs through digital channels.
- Identify, cultivate, and steward new corporate, entry-level, and mid-level individual donors.
- Support all aspects of the annual fund, including planning, implementing, and managing initiatives.
- Assist in identifying fundraising opportunities and implementing donor-centric appeals across multiple channels.
- Conduct prospect research to identify new funding opportunities and donor engagement strategies, including major gift prospects.
- Assist with the development and execution of major gift solicitation strategies.
- Provide support as needed for special events and fundraising initiatives, including the Boston Benefit, National Gala, and major donor cultivation and stewardship events.
- Assist in the planning and execution of key fundraising engagements, ensuring seamless coordination and donor engagement across various events.
- Manage relationships with external vendors and internal departments to ensure successful events.
- Support corporate and foundation grant application processes, including tracking deadlines and assembling required materials.
- Maintain and manage donor information in the CRM system, ensuring data integrity.
- Support tracking and analyzing fundraising data to identify trends and opportunities.
- Create reports on donor engagement and fundraising performance metrics.
- Support donor stewardship activities and develop meaningful engagement strategies.
Qualifications and Experience
- A passion for the mission, vision, and core values of Room to Grow
- Experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or a related field preferred
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with CRM/database management (Salesforce experience preferred)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across teams and build relationships
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace
- Experience with event planning or donor communications is a plus
- Ability to travel within the US between New York, Boston, and Chicago 1-2 times per year.
