Job Title : Elementary School Art Teacher

Job Location : Colorado Springs, CO

Position Type : Full-Time, Exempt (187 days)

Hours : 7 : 15 - 3 : 45, M- F ( Two plan periods totaling 90 minutes and duty-free lunch)

Job Overview :

The Art Teacher will foster creativity, exploration, and self-expression in students in preschool through grade 5. The ideal candidate will have a passion for visual arts, a commitment to developing students' artistic skills, and the ability to create an engaging and supportive classroom environment. This position requires a dynamic and enthusiastic teacher who can tailor lessons to meet the diverse needs of young learners.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Plan, develop, and deliver comprehensive art lessons and projects for students in elementary grades.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Teach various art techniques and media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, and printmaking.
  • Introduce students to famous artists, art history, and different cultures' artistic traditions.
  • Maintain an organized and engaging art classroom that encourages creative expression and exploration.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet varying learning styles and abilities.
  • Ability to adapt lessons to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that encourages student collaboration and individual creativity.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback and guidance to encourage growth and improvement.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff on interdisciplinary projects and school events.
  • Organize and participate in school art exhibitions, shows, and displays.
  • Ensure proper care and use of art supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain a safe and clean art room environment.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress and classroom activities.
  • Attend staff meetings, workshops, and professional development sessions as required.
  • Administer standardized tests in accordance with school testing protocol.
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Art Education or related field.
  • Possess or be eligible to receive Colorado Teaching License with appropriate endorsement.
  • The candidate must be or able to be endorsed in the content area, has passed the PLACE or Praxis test in the content area, and / or have 24 semester credit in the content area to meet Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) "highly qualified" status.
  • Previous teaching experience (preferably in elementary education) is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of different art forms, materials, and techniques.
  • Ability to create and maintain an engaging, positive classroom environment.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, creativity, and a passion for working with children.
  • Preferred Skills :

  • Experience with integrating technology in the art classroom.
  • Knowledge of art history and its application in elementary education.
  • Experience in organizing art events or exhibitions at school.
  • Working Conditions :

  • Classroom-based environment.
  • Occasional after-school or evening events (e.g., art shows, exhibitions, parent nights).
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
  • Two plan periods per day (90 minutes total).
  • Duty free lunch period.
  • Friday students release at 1 : 30 p.m. to allow for Professional Development or to prepare for the next week.
