Job Summary
Under general supervision, is responsible for representing Roosevelt General Hospital (RGH) as an exemplary organization in the region. The Registrar will be the embodiment of the organization’s mission, vision and values. They will greet patients, families and guests upon arrival and assist them in navigating through all aspects of their hospital or clinic visit. The candidate will initiate the department process, inpatient admissions, and transfer paperwork; obtain and verify accurate identification and demographical data for the patient’s permanent medical record and billing. They will coordinate clerical, registration/admission and communication for efficient and effective operations of the department. The candidate will be responsible for assisting patients with insurance options, setting up payment arrangements, collecting insurance co-payments and deposits; obtain comprehensive information to protect the patient’s well-being and the financial interest of the institution.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization
- Receive, review, and organize orders to ensure provider signature, diagnosis, ordered study, and date has been provided
- Responsible for ensuring all surgical services are authorized
- Pre-register surgical accounts
- Offer estimates to all commercial patients receiving same-day services or obtain estimate declination form
- For scheduled procedures, notify patients two days advance of any amounts due at the time of service
- Run ABNs for Medicare patients to ensure they are informed of non-covered services or frequency limits and obtain signatures
- Collect demographics and insurance information to enter data into EMR system
- Verify patient insurance eligibility by utilizing RGH tools and insurance portals
- Obtain signatures to include but not limited to Condition of Admission, HIPAA, Contract Service Waiver, Private Pay Notification
- Register patients for same-day procedures
- Answer phone calls and redirect them when appropriate
- Direct private pay patients to Financial Counselors prior to registering for services
- Gathers and documents pertinent patient information to ensure compliance with safety standards
- Communicate with providers and other key staff to update the status of a request
- Post payments and provide patients with receipt
- Daily cash reconciliation and drawer count
- Implements downtime procedures in the event of our system being down
- Assist with retro Medicaid verification
- May be assigned to float to different departments for registrar coverage upon completion of training

Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
- Basic computer knowledge
- Typing speed: minimum 40 wpm, computer knowledge
- Bilingual preferred

- Knowledge of medical insurances (Medicare, HMO’s, PPO’s, commercial), EMTALA regulations, hospital billing and collection process

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
- Work is performed during regular work hours, but may require overtime and/or weekend hours to meet deadlines
- Work in varying degrees of temperature (heated or air conditioned)
- Work under extreme pressures
- Position requires sitting for approximately 4-8 hours per day and walking for 2 hours per day
