GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibilities of this position are to provide in-person lecture and laboratory instruction in Immunology, Microbiology and related courses at the advanced undergraduate and graduate levels, and to develop and maintain a collaborative research program involving students.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
· Providing exceptional classroom and laboratory instruction in Microbiology and/or Immunology and in other upper-level and graduate courses as appropriate.
· Incorporating evidence-based teaching methods that enhance learning outcomes for all students.
· Engaging in scholarly and professional development activities that contribute to scientific knowledge and provide student research training opportunities, including master’s thesis sponsorship.
· Mentoring students as they navigate degrees and majors.
· Collaborating on the review and improvement of course materials, teaching methodologies, and assessment methods.
· Participation in department and college-level meetings, working groups, and governance.
Requirements:
Minimum qualifications:
· Doctoral degree in microbiology, immunology, science education, or related field
· Documented successful college-level teaching experience
Preferred qualifications
· Experience using contemporary teaching methods to support student learning inside and outside of the classroom
· Experience in incorporating demonstrations and technology into teaching, including the use of tools such as open educational resources, online homework systems and course management software
· Record of student research mentoring or publication with student co-authors
· Experience in curriculum design and assessment, including using assessment results to improve course content and student learning outcomes
· Demonstrated ability in laboratory instrument operation and maintenance
· Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor students in a range of majors and programs
