Fund Development Manager (Senior Program Manager)
Position Summary :
The Fund Development Manager is responsible for prospecting, communicating with funders including the development of fundraising materials and proposals. They are responsible for discovering funders, grant opportunities, and building and maintaining relationships with funders, donors, and others within the community. They work collaboratively across all Roots departments, including Communications, Finance, Administration, and Programs.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Corporation, Foundation and Government Relations
Research and identify new grant opportunities from philanthropy, government, and individual donors including supporting documentation based on the funding requirements of the organization.
Identify and qualify potential prospects that align with the organization's mission and strategic priorities.
Develop compelling communications and messaging that highlights the history, structure, objectives, programs and financial needs of the organization.
Establish efficient workflows that foster collaboration with the grant writer to submit grant proposals.
Facilitate correspondence with internal and external queries to develop quality proposals.
Understand the legal regulatory framework of Roots Community as it relates to funding.
Issue memoranda and other correspondence and compile project / program contracts, budgets, and reports.
Participate in staff meetings, supervision, agency meetings and staff training.
Advancement Operations and Donor Stewardship
Conduct in-depth research on potential corporate, government and foundation funders, including their funding priorities, application deadlines, and decision-making processes.
Identify and qualify potential prospects that align with the organization's mission and strategic priorities.
Maintain a comprehensive database of prospective funders.
Oversee all aspects of the advancement database.
Oversee the implementation of fundraising technologies.
Steward corporate and foundation donors through regular communication, acknowledgment of support and impact of their gifts.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers at corporate and foundation funders.
Conduct site visits, attend donor events, and participate in industry conferences to cultivate relationships and build rapport.
Plan and execute strategic engagement activities, such as briefings, presentations, and donor cultivation events.
Grant Writing
Develop compelling grant proposals and sponsorship requests that effectively communicate the organization's mission, impact, and funding needs.
Ensure proposals are well-written, persuasive, and adhere to funder guidelines.
Coordinate with program staff and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and develop strong proposals.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
Supervise and mentor any assigned grant writer and coordinator.
Collaborate with other departments within the organization, including program staff, marketing, and communications.
Represent the organization at external events and conferences.
Contribute to the overall success of the development department.
Administrative Support
Manage the day-to-day internal operations of the advancement department.
Coordinate the preparation of fundraising materials.
Assist with the planning and execution of fundraising events.
Provide administrative support to the Chief of Staff and other fundraising staff.
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree with minimum 5 years fundraising / grant writing experience or Associates degree with 7 years fundraising / grant writing experience.
Experience working in non-profit organization, or a community clinic preferred.
Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
Clear and effective external and internal, verbal and written, communication skills.
Strong critical thinker and problem solver who can successfully build and lead an execution strategy from a long-term vision.
Strong working knowledge of Google Office and Microsoft Office.
Proficiency in using fundraising databases (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Salesforce).
Ability to work in a team with people from diverse backgrounds; strong interpersonal communication skills.
