Position: Outdoor Engagement Supervisor
Reports to: Program Director
Workers Supervised: n/a
Work Environment: Residential Treatment Center

Qualifications
Experience and Education
- At least 21 years of age
- Valid WFR Certification
- Experience leading outdoor adventure activities
- College training in Mental Health; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 2 years working with youth
- 2 years RTC work experience
- Background in family studies/social work/psychology (preferred, but not required)
- Experience working with adolescent females (preferred, but not required)
- CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Position Overview
Responsible for the planning and execution of all outdoor adventure and community engagement programming. Supervises shift staff during all outdoor adventure and community engagement programming. Purchases and maintains all relevant programming equipment. Builds relationships with clients through meaningful conversations, shared experiences, and acts as a role model. Provides support, training, and guidance in working with clients.
Responsibilities
- To effectively manage and decrease risk by doing the following:
- Maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment as outlined by policy and procedures and adhering to the Utah State Human Services Provider Code of Conduct.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and neat facility both indoors and outdoors. To ensure that all buildings and grounds are kept neat and free of clutter, trash, animal waste, or hazardous materials, including keeping sidewalks and walkways free of ice and snow.
- Support, cooperate with, implement and enforce confidentiality of all data, including client, employee and company records and information.
- Support, cooperate with, implement and enforce all ROOTs policies and procedures
- Participate in or initiate a redirection intervention (restraint procedure) with a client who meets criteria for this according to the (ROOTs restraint training); this may be required at any time after being trained. Employee understands they are required to complete the training to prepare to be effective in these skills. These skills include the training necessary to safely, physically restrain a client whose behavior is deemed to be a risk to her or others.
- Facilitates search training for all employees
- To demonstrate positive role modeling and mentoring of clients by doing the following:
- Provide a positive role model for all clients, adhering to the principles and values of the company as outlined in the employee handbook.
- Play an active role in the community by creating an emotionally safe space for clients to bring up concerns, feedback, etc.
- To demonstrate commitment and responsibility in completing all job duties including:
- Consistently exercise good judgment and adequate emotional stability in evaluating situations and making decisions despite the pressures of deadlines or the occurrence of unexpected stressful events.
- Plan, execute and maintain all outdoor activities and community engagement, including quarterly camping trips.
- Maintain 3 days a week on shift/in ratio (24 hours total).
- Maintain 16 hours of administrative work each week (attend weekly Leadership & Treatment Team meetings, coordinate & plan OE activities, communicate weekly plans to ROOTs team, meet with clients, etc)
- As a salaried employee, adjust administrative hours each week in order to maintain
- 40 work week
- Work directly with the Program Director and Clinical Director to ensure vision of the program is in alignment with other aspects of the program.
- Focus on client safety during each activity and stay within the limits of our insurance.
- Exhibit good judgment and common sense in difficult situations.
- Maintain and care for equipment by keeping it organized and proper maintenance.
- Provide updates to the treatment team about the progress of each client as it relates to the stage they are on.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Work includes active movement around the facility and during outdoor activities.
- Employees must be able to participate alongside clients in outdoor activities that include, but are not limited to: hiking, biking, camping, skiing, etc.
- Staff must be able to lift at least 50 lbs, and be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and to be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Employees must be able to operate a vehicle and sit for extended periods of time while operating a vehicle.
