Position Summary
The Quality Technician is responsible for performing visual and dimensional inspections of parts produced at Roper Pump Company, as well as incoming inspections of vendor-supplied products, and the documentation of results. Using various measuring and testing tools, this role ensures parts meet engineering drawings and relevant specifications.
Additional responsibilities include gage calibration and maintenance, conducting pump and flow divider tests, assisting engineering with root cause analysis on returned or defective products, and supporting quality-related initiatives such as internal/external audits and continuous improvement projects.
Essential Functions
- Inspection Duties
- Perform visual and dimensional inspections on in-house and vendor-supplied parts to ensure compliance with engineering specifications.
- Utilize inspection tools including, but not limited to, Rockwell/Brinell hardness testers, Magnaflux, dye penetrant, CMM, surface plates, optical comparators, vector gages, calipers, micrometers, and plug gages.
- Documentation & ERP Entry
- Manage quality transactions in the ERP system and complete necessary paperwork.
- Responsibilities may include accepting conforming parts, processing nonconformance reports (NCRs), closing route cards/shop orders, logging inspection activities, and entering data into appropriate software systems.
- Gage Calibration & Maintenance
- Perform in-house calibrations and coordinate with outside vendors for additional gaging needs.
- Ensure all production gaging tools are properly calibrated and available.
- Continuous Improvement
- Support and participate in problem-solving initiatives and process improvement projects.
- Product Testing & Analysis
- Conduct pump and flow divider testing.
- Disassemble and evaluate returned or defective products to aid in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Audits
- Participate in both internal and external quality audits as required.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
- Moderate noise level.
- PPE required: safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, hearing protection, and hard hats as necessary.
Physical Demands
- Standing or sitting for extended periods (8–10 hours).
- Occasional lifting, pushing, and pulling of items up to 50 pounds.
Education & Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing or inspection environment.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, including GD&T.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization.
- CMM programming skills preferred.
- NDT certification is a plus.
