Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Pastoral Care Manager’s role at Roper or St. Francis Hospital is to assist the Director of Pastoral Care/CPE in making the Mission and Values of RSFH System vital and operational. The Manager assists the Director in setting up a continuum of Pastoral Care services which include patient care, spirituality, worship and pastoral counseling. These services are available to all patients, families and staff. The managers will plan, organize and facilitate the introduction of new CPE students into the hospital setting and serve as a monitor regarding the care of patients by CPE students, reporting all issues to the Director of Pastoral Care/CPE. A manager will provide spiritual and emotional support to patients, families and staff, working collaboratively with other Departments and the full time Pastoral Care Staff. In the organizational structure, the Pastoral Care/CPE Department reports to the Vice President of Mission.
Essential Job Functions
  • Coordinate the pastoral care department at RH or BSSF and provide high quality, effective pastoral care to patients, families and staff. Work collaboratively with department staffs and hospital staff to assure quality care.
  • Facilitate introduction of CPE students to hospital and assigned units and monitor their work.
  • Provide pastoral care and counseling to patients, families and staff when appropriate
  • Keep updated on new perspectives, theologies and methods in pastoral care
  • Maintain liaison with community faith groups; facilitate access of clergy to hospitals by coordinating area wide Clergy ID Badge system
  • Performs other job duties and responsibilities as required.

Licensing/Certification
Certified (or eligible for certification) by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) or the Association of Professional Chaplains, or equivalent experience
Education
Four units of CPE
Bachelor’s degree required
Master’s in theology, Ministry or equivalent experience in professional ministry preferred
Work Experience
A minimum of one year experience in ministry and leadership.
Hospital Chaplain experience preferred.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Frequent sitting, walking, standing. Intermittent stretching, standing, stooping, bending. May require lifting or moving items up to 25 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Possible exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, and/or irregular hours.

  • Ability to facilitate Worship Services
  • In conjunction with the Director, oversee the staffing and development of the Pastoral Care team
  • Necessary computer skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Warm, sensitive, and compassionate to the spiritual and emotional needs of others
  • Ability to relate to physicians, nurses, administrative staff, hospital staff, patients, families, and visitors in a professional and caring manner.
