What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Sales Manager position at Rosado Group?
General Sales Manager (GSM) – Dickson City Hyundai
Dickson City Hyundai – Scranton, PA
(High-Volume Hyundai Dealership)
Overview:
Dickson City Hyundai is seeking a top-performing General Sales Manager (GSM) to lead our sales team and drive continued success at our high-volume dealership. The ideal candidate is an automotive sales leader with expertise in desking deals and a thorough knowledge of lender financing programs. This role requires strong leadership abilities, including the skill to train and mentor a sales staff, and a proven track record of exceeding sales targets while maintaining exceptional customer satisfaction. If you have the drive to build a winning team and maximize sales in a fast-paced environment, we want to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities
• Dealership Sales Leadership: Oversee all aspects of the new and used car sales operations to meet and exceed dealership unit and gross profit goals. Develop and implement sales strategies and action plans to capitalize on market opportunities and emerging trends.
• Desking Deals & Finance Management: Act as the desking expert – structure and approve deals for the sales team, ensuring profitable, win-win deals for the customer and dealership. Leverage a complete understanding of bank and lender programs (rates, terms, incentives) to secure optimal financing or leasing for customers. Work closely with the F&I Manager to maximize per-vehicle revenue and ensure deals are funded promptly.
• Team Development & Mentoring: Recruit, hire, train, and develop a high-performing sales team. Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and daily leadership to sales managers and associates, including regular sales meetings and one-on-one coaching. Foster a positive, high-energy showroom culture that motivates the team to reach their full potential.
• Performance Tracking & Reporting: Monitor sales KPIs (units, gross, F&I products, CSI, etc.) and analyze performance data to identify areas for improvement. Conduct daily and weekly save-a-deal and progress meetings to keep the team on track. Report sales results and forecasts to dealership senior management, with action plans to address any shortfalls.
• Customer Experience & Retention: Ensure an outstanding customer experience by setting clear customer service standards and handling any escalated customer issues or complaints promptly. Implement processes to maintain high CSI scores and build loyal relationships with our clientele, turning buyers into repeat customers and advocates of the dealership.
• Inventory & Marketing Coordination: Work with the General Manager and inventory manager to maintain an appropriate mix and supply of vehicles (both new and pre-owned) for a high-volume operation. Assist in planning effective sales events, advertising, and community promotions to drive traffic and increase market share.
• Cross-Department Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments – Finance, Service, Parts, and Marketing – to ensure cohesive operations. For example, coordinate with Service on pre-delivery inspections and reconditioning, and with Marketing/BDC on lead management and digital sales processes, to ensure a smooth end-to-end sales funnel.
Required Qualifications
• Experience: 5 years of progressive automotive sales management experience, with at least 2–3 years as a Sales Manager or GSM in a high-volume dealership. Proven track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets and revenue goals is a must.
• Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of automotive sales operations, desking practices, and financing. Expertise in structuring deals and mastery of various lender/bank programs (prime, subprime, lease, etc.) to maximize sales opportunities. Up-to-date on OEM incentives, rebates, and dealership management software/CRM tools.
• Leadership Skills: Excellent leadership and people-management skills with the ability to motivate and mentor a sales team. Demonstrated ability to train salespeople (both new hires and veterans) in product knowledge, sales process, and customer service best practices.
• Communication: Strong communication and negotiation skills. Able to effectively conduct sales meetings, interact with customers, and liaise with bank representatives and Hyundai corporate contacts.
• Customer Focus: A clear understanding of the importance of customer satisfaction and retention in the car business. Evidence of maintaining high CSI/Google review scores or similar customer-centric achievements in prior roles.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Experience & Certifications
• Brand Experience: Prior experience with the Hyundai brand or a similar import brand is a plus. Familiarity with Hyundai’s product lineup, programs, and sales process can shorten the learning curve.
• High-Volume Exposure: Background in a high-volume dealership environment (e.g. 175 units/month) strongly preferred. Candidates should be comfortable managing a large sales floor and inventory.
• Certifications: Industry certifications or training that set you apart are advantageous. Examples include completion of the NADA Dealer Academy program or Automotive Sales Manager Certification, and any Hyundai-specific sales manager training or certification. Certifications in F&I (e.g. AFIP) or manufacturer leadership programs demonstrate well-rounded industry knowledge.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency with dealership CRM systems (e.g. VinSolutions, DealerSocket) and desking software. Solid computer skills including MS Office. Experience using data analysis to drive sales strategy is a plus.
What We Offer
• Competitive Compensation: Attractive base salary plus commission/bonus structure commensurate with a high-volume store and your experience. Top performers in this role can earn a six-figure income, aligned with the department’s success.
• Benefits Package: Comprehensive benefits including health, dental, 401(k), paid time off after 1 yr, and demo vehicle or car allowance. We invest in our team’s well-being and financial future.
• Professional Growth: Dickson City Hyundai is committed to your development. You’ll have access to ongoing training and industry conferences to keep your skills sharp.
