We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Compliance Associate to join our multifamily real estate team in New York City. The Compliance Associate will play a critical role in ensuring our properties meet all local laws and regulations, with a focus on timely submission of compliance-related reports, violation certifications, and required filings. The ideal candidate is well-versed in NYC local laws and regulations and has hands-on experience with various compliance platforms and processes.

Essential Job Functions

  • Prepare and submit required compliance-related reports, including but not limited to : Energy Benchmarking (LL87 / LL84), Bed Bug Annual Reports, Annual Mailings (Window Guard Notices, Lead-Based Paint Disclosures), Multiple Dwelling Registrations (MDRs)
  • Track submission deadlines and ensure all filings are completed accurately and on time.
  • Manage paperwork and processes to certify and resolve violations issued by state agencies for New York, New Jersey and Connecticut
  • Coordinate with property managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to address corrective actions and ensure compliance.
  • Utilize DOB NOW to perform required sign-offs, submit filings, and process compliance-related payments.
  • Monitor the DOB NOW portal for updates or changes to requirements.
  • Leverage compliance management software such as SiteCompli, BCompliant, and Leonardo 24 / 7 to track, manage, and report on property compliance.
  • Update and maintain records in these systems to ensure real-time accuracy and reporting capabilities.
  • Stay current on NY, NJ and CT laws, regulations, and compliance requirements impacting multifamily properties.
  • Conduct regular audits of property compliance records to ensure ongoing adherence to legal standards.
  • Provide guidance and training to internal teams on compliance-related procedures and tools.
  • Must travel between properties to be present on-site and be able to move throughout the buildings to address building related matters, including exceptional communication skills to meet with tenants, staff, vendors and visitors.
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs and be comfortable with exposure to varying environmental climates and circumstances.
  • This is a full-time position that requires the willingness and desire to work 4-days a week onsite at our corporate office. This position also allows for 1-day of remote work for added flexibility.
  • Position may be required to perform duties outside their normal responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a compliance-related role within multifamily real estate or property management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Urban Planning, Business Administration, or a related field preferred but not required with equivalent experience.
  • Strong familiarity with NY, NJ and / or CT laws and regulations affecting residential properties.
  • Proficient in DOB NOW for filings and payments.
  • Proficiency in navigating computers and property management software, to include Microsoft Office, Yardi and compliance software such as SiteCompli, BCompliant, and / or Leonardo 24 / 7.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
