Director of Counseling Services

As our Director of Counseling Services, you will maintain a minimal caseload of direct clinical walk-in/triage appointments; provide consultation to students, faculty, and clinical staff as needed; assist with crisis intervention, student referrals to off-campus facilities for counseling and testing, and facilitation of hospital admissions for high-risk students as needed; maintain confidential student electronic medical records; monitor outreach programming and assists with pre-orientation and orientation outreach events in preparation for new students and families and other mental health-focused outreach events.
The Director of Counseling Services will promote the Student Counseling Center to the broader Institute community through active participation in campus initiatives and committees that promote mental wellness collaboration; develop annual counseling brochure to be distributed to all students, staff, and faculty to promote mental health services; serve in a consultative role as a mental health professional for student affairs team and the behavioral intervention team.
The Director of Counseling Services will carry out administrative supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the institute’s policies and applicable laws; provide daily verbal and written communication to the unit and department staff; ensure the flow of consistent information between administrative and departmental staff; administratively supervise, lead, and provide technical mentorship for team members; develop, plan, implement, and administer organizational goals and objectives.
The Director of Counseling Services will serve as a member of the Student Affairs Management team and assist with setting strategic priorities and direction for the department of Student Counseling Services; help ensure departmental goals align with Institute priorities and participate in the budgeting process by identifying project needs and priorities; serve on various groups and committees and represent the vice president and department at various meetings/functions as needed.
Additionally, the Director will develop, prepare, forecast, and oversee the department budget for the operation of Student Counseling Services; manage budgets to ensure revenue goals are met and control expenses within guidelines; watch and ensure that all risks are assessed and addressed appropriately.
Qualified candidates will hold a master’s degree in clinical, counseling or school psychology and five to seven years of counseling experience. Must have a current license to practice in the State of Indiana. Advanced analytical, project/process management and computer skills are essential. The ability to read, analyze, and interpret mental health data, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental relations is necessary. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public are essential. The ability to work flexible hours, which include weekends as needed, is required.
Preferred candidates will have a doctoral degree in clinical, counseling, or school psychology. Professional counseling experience working with college students in a campus environment is highly desired. Professional experience as an administrator in a mental health setting and a clinical supervisor along with a strong understanding of mental health care in higher education and familiarity with diagnoses that commonly affect college students is strongly preferred. Preferred skills include training, supervision, counseling, assessment, and campus-wide outreach services. Knowledge of student development issues relating to college students is desired.

Salary range is $68,000 – $85,000. Salary is competitive. A higher salary may be negotiated based on experience and qualifications.
