What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructional Assistant III, SRC - 6.5 hours position at ROSEBURG SCHOOL DISTRICT?

This is for a 6.5-hour per day Instructional Assistant III, SRC position at Roseburg High School starting immediately. The work calendar is up to 185 days per year. 

 

The Secondary Resource Center (SRC) provides specialized instruction in academic, social and/or adaptive skills.

 

General Job Description: Under administrative supervision and the direction of a teacher or other licensed staff, the instructional assistant may assist the teacher in planning and instituting behavioral management programs and in providing services that help give students with significant disabilities the opportunity to benefit from education. Performs instructional assistance to the teacher as well as a variety of tasks in support of preparation for the educational process. Duties may range from toileting, feeding and personal hygiene guidance to (more emphasized) instructional program implementation, behavior plans, motor skills development, and assisting with programmatic placement for significantly anti-social/emotional students. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: must be at least 18-years of age; high school diploma or equivalent required; 2-year college degree or equivalent preferred

 

Experience: Having worked with students and staff in a school or youth organization if preferred

 

Qualifications: Demonstrate competence in the areas of mathematics, reading, writing and speaking.

 

Knowledge of:

  • The importance of following policy and practices regarding student records, behavior and confidentiality.
  • The importance of using effective instructional materials and their uses.
  • Effective behavior management procedures.
  • Developmental characteristics of children.

Ability to:

  • Work with and lead students in group or individual instructional activities. Ability to institute adapted standard educational curriculum to the specialized needs of students with significant disabilities.
  • Ability to present instructional material in a clear, sequenced manner while sensitive to the needs of students and their ability to comprehend.
  • Ability to handle physical care needs and respond to specialized health care requirements.
  • Ability to observe, interpret and record data involving the academic record and behavior of students.
  • Ability to deal with stress of working closely with students with significant disabilities. Dependability, adaptability, patience, consistency, high level of communication skills, and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to assess situations and act appropriately and with sound judgment for the safety and well-being of students and teacher.
  • Work cooperatively with teachers, students, and adults.
  • Learn classroom procedures rapidly.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Follow a schedule.
  • Perform tasks involving use of independent judgment.
  • Work cooperatively with a teacher and to learn classroom procedures and skills rapidly and thoroughly.
  • Perform physical duties as required.
  • Be trustworthy with confidential information.
