Music Instructor - Independent Contractor
Terms to be decided when contract is drawn up.
SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Music Instructor is responsible for providing a safe, positive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for students (children & adults). The teacher must plan, organize, implement, and evaluate their curriculum and teaching methods on a continuing basis.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Must be 18 years old
- Minimum of one to three years’ experience in working with children in a fun learning environment.
- Must have formal instruction in the musical field.
- Music degree preferred
- Must be able to read music and perform on specified instrument
- Must be self-motivated and responsible.
- Ability to follow directions and communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with residents, staff and job responsibilities under stressful conditions.
- Ability to control children within a classroom setting.
- Must be able to respond to and handle children’s behaviors in a positive appropriate manner.
- CPR/First Aid certification, preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks:
- Teach individual music lessons and sustain student progress.
- Develop, teach, and execute class plans for individual lessons of all ages.
- Explain & demonstrate performance techniques on the specified instrument.
- Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills, be out-going, and enjoy building relationships with a variety of members working to meet their music goals.
- May teach a variety of classes based on experience and specialties.
- Ensure that music instruction areas are always presentable. Assist with cleaning and maintenance.
- Alert Recreation Supervisor of needed inventory and supplies.
- Keep accurate attendance records
- Other duties as assigned
- Keep parents informed of program expectations, activities, and their child’s progress
- Discuss identified problems and needs with supervisor and coworkers as appropriate
- Implement positive discipline when required
- Be familiar with emergency procedures
