Position Summary:
The Building Engineer has responsibilities for facilities maintenance and repairs under the direction of the Director of Facilities, including preventative maintenance, repairs, building systems repair and maintenance, and in developing and maintaining a clean and safe physical environment.
Essential Functions:
- Performs repairs, general and preventative maintenance, renovations, and related tasks of campus buildings.
- Performs painting, carpentry and masonry work (e.g. preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains, and varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.).
- Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not limited to replacement or repair of mixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.).
- Performs minor plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, trenching and laying new lines, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices, etc.).
- Reconfigures, installs, positions, and remounts modular offices and space (e.g. furniture, wall panels, work, surfaces, storage bins, lighting, file cabinets, etc.) to accommodate user needs and maximize office space using various hand, power and specialty tools, dollies and hand trucks.
- Participates in all quality assurance programs and maintains compliance with federal and state occupational safety regulations.
- Maintains the building management and control systems and assures the continuous operation of all campus buildings, including all research lab and clinic environments.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5-10 years’ work experience required in facilities operations. Any combinations of education that provides required knowledge of skill and abilities deemed necessary for this position.
- Preference will be given to those who have some college, specialized training and/or professional licenses.
- Must have valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
