Position Summary
Perform a wide variety of duties to build, assemble, test and trouble shoot electrical/electronic controls for aerial ladders. Work from wiring schematics to assemble components, cut and attach wiring and cabling and test operation. Use a variety of hand and power tools.
Duties & Responsibilities
All employees are required to support Rosenbauer's Mission, Vision, and Values. The following are the essential duties of this position and do not include marginal functions that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties. The scope and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of Rosenbauer.
- Read and interpret schematic drawings, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, work orders and reports to determine materials requirements and assembly instructions.
- Install circuit wiring in chassis frames for lights, ignition, PTO’s and other electrical apparatus, following diagrams and wire schematics.
- Locate, mark and drill positions for outlet boxes on walls.
- Cut openings and drill holes for wire, light fixtures, outlet boxes and fuse holders, using electric drill.
- Thread wire or preassembled cables through holes in floor or sides of truck and secure them to frame, using clips or staples.
- Install fixtures and boxes in openings, using screwdriver and hand tools.
- Connect terminals to power source to test operation of fixtures.
- Pre-fabricate wire harnesses from wire schematics.
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
- Assemble electrical or electronic systems and support structures; install components, units, subassemblies, wiring and assembly casings, using rivets, bolts, and soldering.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, effects and the need for adjustment or repair.
- Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters and voltmeters, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
- Plan and conduct installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, based on wiring schematics, for all components of any given truck.
- Inspect and test wiring installations, assemblies and circuits for resistance factors and for operation; and record results.
- Adjust, repair, or replace electrical or electronic component parts to correct defects and to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Clean parts, using cleaning solutions, air hoses and cloths.
- Work with communication systems, control devices such as switches, relays, electric coils and terminals
- Knowledge and ambition to learn trouble shooting.
- Perform other duties as needed and directed by Supervisors.
Experience, Education & Physical Requirements
EXPERIENCE:
- 3-4 years manufacturing environment or 3-4 years electrical experience
EDUCATION:
- High School Graduate or equivalent
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Standing 50% of the time
- Sitting 40% of the time
- Climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, laying 10% of the time
- Must be able to lift/move 50 lbs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of basic electrical
- Knowledge of basic math
- Knowledge of reading and writing English
- Conducting tests to determine whether equipment is operating as expected
- Ability to read electrical schematics
- Ability to use various hand and power tools
- Ability to read a tape measure
- Ability to operate a overhead crane
- Ability to operate a forklift
CERTIFICATION:
- Journeyman’s Electrical License optional
- Forklift Certified
- Overhead Crane Certified
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is in a general shop and sometimes outside, and it has access to all welfare facilities. In some cases, the temperature can be warmer or colder depending on the season. Most of the hazards come from machines but following proper procedures should minimize risk. This position will be exposed to the elements and will have to prepare themselves with the right equipment to ensure safety.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires standing and walking for most of the shift. During shifts, some projects require the use of feet, hands, and fingers for over 60 minutes at a time. Depending on the season, different protective apparel will be required. The use of knees, legs, back, shoulders, and arms can vary from 15 minutes to 60 minutes. This position requires reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling to complete job tasks. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus, and good depth perception. All positions require the ability to lift 50 pounds.
