What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dayshift Metal Finishing Operator position at Rosenboom Machine & Tool Inc?
Summary:
Primarily responsible for the safe operation of manufacturing processes such as electroplating, polishing, and induction hardening while meeting established production quality and productivity requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safely sets up, operates and/or tends manufacturing equipment to meet established product quality and productivity expectations. Tends one or more machine tools or special-purpose equipment to coat metal work pieces to specifications on production basis. Machine operation includes but is not limited to observing gauges to ensure that machines are operating properly and making appropriate adjustments or stopping machines when problems occur.
- Runs work orders in assigned sequence, deviating from assigned sequence only with the permission or direction of the shift supervisor or work area lead.
- Records productivity information throughout the course of the shift, as per Rosenboom expectations. Notifies the shift supervisor or work area lead when productivity drops below established expectations.
- Reports equipment concerns as necessary and appropriate; follows up to verify that issues are properly addressed.
- Participates in Continuous Improvement, Quality Assurance, or any other such workplace initiatives as directed.
- Reads and adheres to blueprints or job orders.
- Identifies (including nonconforming dimensions), separates and properly tags all nonconforming parts.
- Produces parts at a rate which meets or exceeds accepted production standards.
Competencies:
- Able to apply common sense understanding to basic work processes. Capable of carrying out detailed written, oral or diagrammed instructions. Can deal with problems involving a few concrete and routine job specific variables.
- Able to acquire and demonstrate a working understanding of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of shop math.
- Able to acquire and demonstrate a working knowledge of the chemicals used in the processes. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
- Able to read and interpret dimensional tolerances and chrome thicknesses.
- Demonstrated ability to apply inspection processes to verify conformance to the print.
- Mechanical aptitude, including a basic understanding of carious types of tools used in the machining process.
